Job Description

Africa's tomorrow is being shaped, one story at a time, by organisations like Absa, a financial institution with over a century of history and a significant regional and international presence. As part of this dynamic group, you have the opportunity to contribute to its exciting growth and influence its future trajectory as a proudly African entity.

About the Role

This position is central to ensuring the smooth and effective operation of reward and remuneration processes across Absa's Pan-African footprint. The Specialist: Reward Administration plays a crucial role in coordinating a variety of administrative tasks related to compensation and benefits. Key to this function is maintaining the accuracy and integrity of reward-related data, supporting governance and compliance frameworks, and ultimately facilitating a positive and efficient experience for colleagues. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to service delivery, ensuring that all reward administration activities are handled with precision and in line with organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities

The scope of responsibilities for this role is broad, encompassing the entire reward administration lifecycle. You will be instrumental in the end-to-end coordination and execution of annual pay review and bonus cycles. This involves ensuring these processes are completed on time, that accurate reports are generated, and that all governance requirements are met, while also engaging effectively with relevant stakeholders.

Your duties will include the administration of various reward programmes and compensation processes, adhering strictly to approved policies, procedures, and operational standards. You will be responsible for executing and validating reward-related transactions, including incentive payments and compensation adjustments, ensuring the highest level of data integrity and control.

Supporting reward reporting and governance is another significant aspect of the role. This involves producing essential operational reports, maintaining governance documentation, conducting reconciliations, and assisting with audit and compliance requests.

Furthermore, you will be the point of contact for colleagues seeking support with reward-related queries. This includes resolving issues, coordinating communications, and ensuring that reward knowledge content and information resources are up-to-date and accessible. You will also manage the administration of exceptions within reward processes, which includes tracking, reporting, escalating issues, and providing governance support.

The role also extends to coordinating remuneration surveys and benchmarking activities. This entails preparing data, making submissions, liaising with external vendors, and managing the administrative aspects of these processes. You will provide first-line support for reward systems, manage data, conduct testing, resolve issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within these systems. Finally, you will support vendor management, monitor service delivery, and handle operational administration and stakeholder coordination, with specific attention to executive and director remuneration processes, ensuring secure administration, governance controls, and audit support.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this position, you will need a relevant Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field. Coupled with your academic qualifications, you should possess at least three years of experience within a Reward, Human Resources, Payroll, Shared Services, Finance Administration, or a similar operational support environment.

Crucially, you should have a solid understanding of reward administration and compensation processes. Experience with HRIS and reward systems, particularly Workday, would be a significant advantage. Strong capabilities in data management, reporting, and reconciliation are essential, as is a firm grasp of governance, compliance, and audit controls.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and service delivery skills are paramount, as you will be interacting with various internal and external parties. You should demonstrate strong analytical and organisational abilities, coupled with effective communication skills and a keen eye for detail. Core competencies expected include accountability, collaboration, and a service-oriented mindset. You should also possess strong planning, critical thinking, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

In South Africa, roles like this, focusing on reward administration within a large financial institution, typically involve competitive remuneration packages, often including performance-based bonuses and comprehensive benefits. Employers often include major banks, large corporations with extensive HR departments, and specialised HR consulting firms. Career progression in this field can lead to roles such as Reward Manager, Senior HR Specialist, or Compensation and Benefits Analyst, with opportunities to specialise further or move into broader HR leadership positions.
