Job Description
FNB is currently looking for an Executive Assistant with a strong research focus to join their Johannesburg-based team. This is not a traditional administrative support role; rather, it is a high-level strategic position designed for an ambitious professional who thrives in a fast-paced banking environment. The successful candidate will act as a key partner to executive leadership, helping to shape business strategy and ensuring that high-level objectives are met through rigorous research, project management, and cross-functional collaboration.
About the role
In this capacity, you will be at the heart of the business’s decision-making process. The role requires an individual who can navigate complex datasets, synthesise information from various sources, and translate these insights into actionable business strategies. You will be responsible for planning and facilitating strategic workshops, managing project lifecycles, and ensuring that governance frameworks remain aligned with the organisation's broader financial and operational goals.
Because you will be working closely with senior leadership, your ability to communicate complex ideas through high-quality documentation—including executive reports, speeches, and briefing notes—is paramount. You will also be tasked with monitoring internal financial performance against forecasts, ensuring that the executive team is always informed of the latest trends and potential risks.
Key Responsibilities
- **Strategic Execution:** Manage the roll-out of business plans and coordinate the end-to-end execution of strategic projects, ensuring internal and external resources are aligned.
- **Research and Analysis:** Conduct in-depth local and international banking research, including competitor benchmarking and sector analysis, to provide evidence-based insights.
- **Governance and Reporting:** Develop and maintain dashboard metrics, review financial results, and prepare detailed documentation for Executive Committee (Exco) meetings.
- **Stakeholder Engagement:** Facilitate productive working relationships across functional lines and liaise with both internal and external advisors.
- **Operational Oversight:** Monitor action items from leadership meetings, track project progress, and proactively resolve operational or technical issues as they arise.
What they're looking for
The role is specifically tailored for someone with a strong background in economic analysis and a desire to transition into a more strategic, executive-facing function. To be considered, candidates should possess:
- **Educational Background:** A minimum of an Economics-related degree. A relevant post-graduate qualification is preferred, with a CA (SA) or CFA designation being mandatory for specific focus areas within the role.
- **Professional Experience:** At least two years of experience as an Economic Analyst.
- **Analytical Rigour:** An ability to "cut to the core" of large volumes of data and prioritise what is most relevant to the business’s strategic agenda.
- **Soft Skills:** Strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to teamwork and inclusivity, and the ability to influence outcomes across various levels of the organisation.
