About the Role

As a Financial Accountant, you will be entrusted with the day-to-day operational financial accounting. This involves the thorough examination, classification, and recording of all incoming business transactions. A core aspect of your work will be ensuring the accuracy and reliability of various ledgers, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reconciliation accounts. You will also play a crucial supporting role in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes. This includes preparing necessary accruals, provisions, and supporting documentation for account reconciliations.

Beyond core accounting, you will contribute to the financial health of the organisation by preparing or assisting with value-added tax (VAT) returns and other statutory filings. Your responsibilities will also encompass supporting debtor and project invoicing, managing payment processing, and overseeing accounts receivable. Crucially, you will be instrumental in preparing accurate financial data to support reporting, forecasting, and management analyses, offering vital insights for strategic decision-making. You will also collaborate closely with the Controlling department on various analyses and operational finance queries, ensuring a cohesive financial picture.

Your day-to-day and month-to-month responsibilities will be broad and impactful:

• Independently manage the entirety of the ongoing financial accounting processes.
• Meticulously review, classify, and book all current business transactions.
• Reconcile key accounts, including general ledger, debtors, creditors, bank accounts, and intercompany accounts.
• Assist significantly with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparations.
• Prepare necessary adjustments like accruals, provisions, and detailed account analyses for closing periods.
• Generate or help generate VAT returns and other required regulatory declarations.
• Support the invoicing processes for debtors and projects, manage payment runs, and oversee accounts receivable.
• Compile and present reliable financial data for various reporting needs, forecasts, and internal management evaluations.
• Actively support the Controlling department with financial analyses and address operational finance questions.
• Liaise with external parties such as tax advisors, banks, and regulatory bodies, as well as internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement and automation of digital accounting and finance processes, aligning with the company's innovative ethos.

• A completed commercial or tax-related apprenticeship, or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of hands-on experience in financial accounting.
• Demonstrated proficiency in account classification, daily bookkeeping tasks, and account reconciliation.
• Proven experience in preparing for and supporting monthly and year-end closing procedures.
• A sound understanding of German accounting standards (HGB).
• A foundational grasp of financial reporting, forecasting, controlling principles, and key business performance indicators.
• Comfort and skill in using ERP and accounting software, coupled with strong to excellent Microsoft Excel capabilities.
• A structured, diligent, and independent work style characterised by a high degree of reliability.
• A proactive "hands-on" mentality, with the drive to see tasks through to completion independently.
• A genuine interest in digital processes, automation, and the effective application of AI within the finance domain.
• Clear and effective communication skills, essential for seamless collaboration within a fully remote team.
• Very good command of the German language, and a good command of English to support the company's international dealings.
