Job Description

Nejo, a rapidly expanding company focused on translating artificial intelligence into practical business solutions, is seeking to onboard a Senior DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). This position offers a compelling opportunity to shape both the technological and product landscape within an agile, innovation-driven environment. With streamlined decision-making processes and a commitment to flexible working hours, Nejo fosters a culture where individual contributions are highly valued and have a tangible impact.

About the role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer/SRE at Nejo, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, building, and maintaining the company's cloud infrastructure. The primary focus will be on the Azure platform, where you will be instrumental in designing and operating its robust services. A significant undertaking will involve migrating legacy systems currently hosted on AWS to the Azure environment, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition. A key aspect of this role will be the development and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and alerting strategy, empowering the team to proactively identify and address potential issues. Furthermore, you will be responsible for automating deployment processes and establishing sophisticated CI/CD pipelines, thereby enhancing the speed and reliability of software delivery. This position demands a strategic thinker who can make critical architectural decisions, balancing the merits of different Azure services like App Services, Container Apps, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). If you possess a deep understanding of the intricacies of cloud infrastructure and are passionate about enabling cutting-edge AI solutions, this role presents an exciting challenge.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of Nejo's cloud infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Azure. Key duties include:

  • Designing and managing the company's Azure infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Orchestrating the migration of existing legacy services from AWS to the Azure cloud platform.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for monitoring system performance and proactively alerting on critical events.
  • Automating deployment workflows and establishing robust CI/CD pipelines to streamline the software release process.
  • Making informed architectural decisions regarding the deployment of applications on Azure services, such as App Services, Container Apps, and AKS.
  • Contributing to the operational excellence of the platform through hands-on implementation and troubleshooting.

What they're looking for

Nejo is seeking an experienced professional with a proven track record in DevOps or SRE roles. Candidates should possess a minimum of four years of relevant experience. A strong command of Azure, including services like App Services, Storage Accounts, Key Vaults, and Virtual Networks (VNets), is essential. Familiarity with AWS is also required to facilitate the migration project. Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform is a must, alongside expertise in containerisation technologies like Docker and orchestrators like Kubernetes. Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly GitHub Actions, will be highly regarded. A solid understanding of monitoring and observability tools, including Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK stack, or Azure Monitor, is crucial for this role. Furthermore, an appreciation for the AI ecosystem and ideally some exposure to deploying AI solutions on Azure, such as Azure OpenAI, would be advantageous. The ability to make sound architectural decisions is paramount. Excellent communication skills in both German (B2/C1 level) and English are required.

This type of senior DevOps or SRE role in South Africa typically commands a competitive salary, often ranging from R70,000 to R100,000 per month, depending on experience and the specific company. The demand for such skills is high across various sectors, including finance, telecommunications, e-commerce, and increasingly, technology startups focused on emerging fields like AI. Career progression often involves moving into lead or architect roles, or perhaps specialising in cloud security or performance engineering.

Requirements

  • mindestens 4 Jahre Erfahrung als DevOps Engineer, SRE oder vergleichbar
  • Azure als primäre Cloud (App Services, Storage Accounts, Key Vaults, VNets), dazu AWS-Kenntnisse für Legacy-Systeme und Migrationen
  • Terraform/IaC, Docker, Kubernetes, Bash
  • sicher in Architekturentscheidungen (App Service vs. Container App vs. AKS)
  • Deutsch B2/C1
  • gutes Englisch
