Job Description
Driving Quality and Innovation in Software Development
This role is all about championing quality throughout the entire software development lifecycle. You'll be instrumental in ensuring that testing efforts are not just completed, but are executed with excellence and strategic foresight. As a key advocate for quality, you will guide development teams, offer expert advice on testing methodologies, and identify opportunities to enhance the overall quality assurance approach. Your technical acumen will be crucial in shaping testing strategies, ensuring they align with best practices and emerging industry trends.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Your core function will be to facilitate the success of test initiatives by actively driving quality assurance and acting as a strong advocate for testing principles within the organisation. This involves meticulous resource planning and effective management to ensure that testing activities are adequately supported and executed. A significant part of your role will be to proactively identify and resolve any issues or blockers that might impede the progress or effectiveness of the testing process.
You are expected to serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, providing leadership and guidance across all quality engineering functions. This includes offering insightful recommendations on strategies to improve software quality, refine testing approaches, and implement innovative processes. Your expertise will also extend to areas such as:
- Documenting and implementing intelligent testing strategies and methodologies.
- Ensuring adherence to structured test methods and processes throughout development.
- Applying a deep understanding of Quality Assurance principles and best practices.
- Navigating and guiding teams through various stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Leveraging technology orientation to embrace and implement modern testing tools and techniques.
- Potentially contributing to or guiding Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
What You'll Bring to the Table
To excel in this position, you will need a demonstrable track record in software engineering, typically with 5-7 years of proven working experience within the Software Development Life Cycle. A foundational qualification, such as a Diploma in Information Technology or a related field, would be beneficial.
Beyond technical skills, strong behavioural competencies are essential. These include:
- **Adopting Practical Approaches:** The ability to devise and implement realistic and effective solutions.
- **Articulating Information:** Clearly and concisely communicating complex ideas and technical details.
- **Checking Things:** A meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to thoroughness in all tasks.
- **Developing Expertise:** A continuous drive to expand your knowledge and skills in quality engineering.
- **Documenting Facts:** Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of testing activities and findings.
- **Embracing Change:** Adaptability and a willingness to explore and implement new methodologies and technologies.
In South Africa, roles like this, focusing on automation and quality engineering within financial services, can range significantly in remuneration depending on the specific company, the seniority of the position, and the exact scope of responsibilities.
