Release Train Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to steer a complex Agile Release Train (ART) within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and effective execution of programme increments, driving continuous value delivery, and championing Lean-Agile transformations. As a Release Train Engineer (RTE), you will be instrumental in guiding teams through critical processes like PI Planning, fostering alignment across programme and portfolio levels, and ultimately contributing to the organisation's overarching strategic goals.

About the Role

The core of this position revolves around facilitating the successful operation of a single, complex Agile Release Train. This involves a deep understanding and practical application of the SAFe methodology. You will be responsible for ensuring that the train operates efficiently, delivering consistent value to stakeholders. A significant aspect of the role includes fostering an environment of continuous improvement, where processes are regularly reviewed and refined to optimise delivery. You will act as a key enabler, removing impediments and supporting the teams in achieving their objectives.

Beyond the operational aspects, this role is also about transformation and influence. You will be expected to promote the adoption of Lean-Agile principles and practices throughout the organisation. This involves coaching and mentoring leaders and teams, guiding them through the complexities of new ways of working, and fostering a culture that embraces agility and adaptability. Visibility of the ART's health and feature delivery will be crucial, requiring you to report on progress and identify areas for enhancement.

Your responsibilities will encompass a range of critical activities, all aimed at maximising the effectiveness of the Agile Release Train:

• **Facilitate PI Planning:** Lead and guide teams through the crucial PI Planning events, ensuring clear understanding and alignment with programme objectives.
• **Drive Continuous Improvement:** Proactively identify opportunities to enhance processes, workflows, and team dynamics to ensure consistent and predictable value delivery.
• **Promote Lean-Agile Transformation:** Champion the adoption of Lean-Agile principles and practices, acting as a coach and mentor to leaders and teams.
• **Ensure Alignment:** Maintain alignment between the ART's objectives and the broader programme and portfolio strategies.
• **Provide Visibility:** Offer clear insights into the health of feature delivery and the overall progress of the programme increment.
• **Remove Impediments:** Identify and address any obstacles that hinder the progress of the ART.
• **Coach and Influence:** Guide and influence leaders and teams in adopting new processes and ways of working.
• **Foster Collaboration:** Encourage effective collaboration and communication across all teams within the ART.

To excel in this role, you will need a robust background in Agile methodologies and a proven track record of facilitating complex initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess:

• **Experience with SAFe:** A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in implementing and executing Agile Release Trains and Lean-Agile programmes, preferably within small to medium-sized solutions.
• **Agile Expertise:** Strong proficiency in Agile working practices, including Lean and Scrum principles. You should have a deep understanding of Agile concepts, estimation, prioritisation, measurements, and principles.
• **Delivery Facilitation:** Demonstrated experience in facilitating delivery and leading Agile transformations.
• **Collaboration Skills:** The ability to work collaboratively and effectively across multiple teams.
• **Problem-Solving:** A practical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to assess feasibility and viability.
• **Communication:** Excellent articulation skills to convey information clearly and concisely.
• **Adaptability:** A willingness to embrace change and explore new possibilities.
• **Feedback Integration:** An open attitude towards receiving and incorporating feedback.
• **Stakeholder Management:** Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly within an IT context.
• **Educational Background:** A relevant first-degree qualification in Information Technology or a related field is desirable.
• **Certifications:** Holding a Certified Scrum Manager (CSM) or equivalent certification would be advantageous.
