Job Description
This exciting opportunity within Liberty's Global Markets division calls for a dedicated Sales Specialist to drive the sale of flow and structured products and services to financial institutions across Africa and international markets. Based in Johannesburg, you will be instrumental in meeting ambitious annual sales targets while ensuring an exceptional client experience, all within the strategic framework of Global Markets Africa Regions and in strict adherence to regulatory requirements and defined risk parameters.
About the Role
Your primary focus will be on originating, structuring, pricing, and executing sales of both vanilla and structured Global Markets products. This involves nurturing and expanding relationships with a portfolio of financial institution clients. You will act as a key point of contact, understanding their unique financial needs and offering bespoke solutions. Beyond direct sales, this role demands a proactive approach to client engagement, involving the preparation and delivery of insightful presentations, market updates, and strategic trade ideas. Seamless execution of transactions and a commitment to providing an outstanding client experience are paramount.
A significant part of your contribution will involve collaborating closely with internal teams. This includes working with Structuring, Trading, and Research departments to co-create innovative investment and hedging solutions that address the evolving demands of the market. Furthermore, you will partner with a broad spectrum of colleagues across Global Markets, Client Coverage, Investment Banking, Transaction Banking, Credit, Operations, and cross-border teams to identify new opportunities and deliver comprehensive financial solutions. Success in this role is measured by your ability to drive FI sales revenue, achieve budgetary goals, and diligently monitor client profitability and trading activity, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- **Sales Origination and Execution:** Develop and execute sales strategies for Global Markets flow and structured products, ensuring alignment with client needs and business objectives. This includes the entire lifecycle from initial concept and pricing through to execution and ongoing monitoring of trades.
- **Client Relationship Management:** Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with financial institution clients across Africa and international territories. Actively listen to client requirements and proactively propose tailored financial solutions.
- **Advisory and Market Insight:** Prepare and present market insights, trade ideas, and product recommendations to clients, demonstrating a strong understanding of their business and the broader market landscape.
- **Product Development Collaboration:** Work alongside product specialists and trading teams to contribute to the development of new and innovative financial products and structures that meet emerging client demands.
- **Cross-Functional Teamwork:** Engage with various internal departments, including Investment Banking, Client Coverage, and Operations, to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to client service and opportunity identification.
- **Market Development:** Contribute to positioning the organisation as a leading partner for financial institutions across Africa through active participation in market development initiatives and industry events.
- **Risk and Compliance:** Uphold the highest standards of risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in all client interactions and transaction processes.
What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Business Commerce, Economics, Finance, or Accounting, though other relevant qualifications will be considered. A minimum of 3-4 years of proficient experience is required, encompassing a solid understanding of Global Markets client sectors, competitor activities, and the associated risk and regulatory environment. Crucially, you should have proficient knowledge of relevant flow and structured products and services across more than one asset class. Experience in client relationship management within Global Markets is essential, ideally with 1-2 years specifically in sales.
Previous experience in a client-facing role, demonstrating an ability to work independently with minimal supervision, is expected. While not strictly mandatory, prior experience in formally guiding less experienced team members would be advantageous. Familiarity with flow and structured sales environments is beneficial.
Key behavioural competencies include strong communication skills, the ability to articulate complex information clearly, and a dedication to developing expertise in your field. You should excel at building rapport, interpreting data, and understanding client needs, while also being adept at following procedures and maintaining high professional standards. Technical skills should include strong business insights, a keen understanding of client business cases, local market knowledge relevant to African regions, and analytical abilities to assess market trends and product performance.
