Job Description

This opportunity is for a Quality Engineer to steer the quality engineering strategy for intricate solutions. The core of this role involves employing robust and scalable automated testing tools and frameworks to ensure both functional and non-functional requirements are met. You will be instrumental in driving testing initiatives throughout all phases of product, systems, and service development. This requires close collaboration with multiple delivery teams to achieve comprehensive test coverage. A key aspect will be measuring and monitoring the application of testing standards across the portfolio, proactively identifying risks, and implementing preventative measures to maintain high-quality outcomes.

About the role

The Quality Engineer will take ownership of the quality engineering approach. This includes defining and implementing strategies for testing complex solutions, ensuring they are both reliable and scalable. You will be responsible for the planning and execution of testing activities across the entire development lifecycle, from inception to deployment and beyond. This involves working closely with various teams to embed quality throughout the development process, rather than treating it as an afterthought. The role demands a proactive stance on risk management, ensuring that potential issues are identified and addressed before they impact the end product.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will centre around the technical and strategic aspects of quality assurance within a software development context. This includes:

  • Leading the quality engineering approach for complex solutions, covering both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Utilising and extending scalable, reliable automated test tools and frameworks.
  • Planning and driving testing activities across all stages and iterations of product, systems, and service development.
  • Collaborating effectively with a variety of delivery teams to ensure cohesive testing efforts.
  • Measuring and monitoring the application of testing standards across the application portfolio.
  • Assessing and mitigating quality-related risks through proactive measures.
  • Ensuring adherence to structured test methods and processes.

What they're looking for

To excel in this position, you will need a strong foundation in software engineering and quality assurance principles, coupled with extensive practical experience. Specifically, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A first-degree qualification in Information Studies or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of proven experience in software engineering technology.
  • Demonstrable working experience within a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • A strong track record in the automation of testing approaches, including the use of relevant tools.
  • Experience with load balancing and performance testing.
  • Familiarity with various non-functional testing types.
  • A solid understanding of quality assurance principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in structured test methods and processes.
  • Experience with SDLC methodologies and tools.

An advantage would be a cloud certification, indicating a forward-thinking approach to modern infrastructure. Behaviourally, candidates should demonstrate practical approaches to problem-solving, excellent information articulation, a meticulous eye for detail, a commitment to developing expertise, and strong documentation skills.
