Old Mutual, a prominent financial services group with a deep-rooted belief in the African continent's potential, is seeking a dedicated Senior Accounts Administrator to join their team in Cape Town. This organisation is committed to fostering a diverse workforce that reflects the vibrant talent pool across Africa, aiming to write the continent's financial story together.

About the Role

This position is integral to the finance department, offering a broad spectrum of accounting duties. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Management Accountant, contributing significantly to the compilation and analysis of financial data. The role demands a solid grasp of accounting fundamentals and principles, coupled with practical experience in bookkeeping. It's an opportunity to engage with various financial processes, from foundational ledger entries to more complex financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Accounts Administrator will be entrusted with a range of responsibilities that are vital for maintaining financial accuracy and supporting strategic decision-making. Key duties include:

  • Performing professional accounting tasks, which encompass the compilation, consolidation, and detailed analysis of financial information.
  • Managing ledgers and preparing journal entries, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Handling specific accounting areas such as fixed asset or inventory accounting.
  • Assisting in the preparation of trial balances and financial statements, providing a clear financial picture.
  • Engaging in cost accounting activities to monitor and control expenditures.
  • Conducting bank account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Compiling essential supporting documentation for the Management Accountant and aiding in the development of management reports.
  • Assisting with the compilation of budgets and managing expenses effectively.
  • Producing regular monthly reports detailing actual performance against business plans.
  • Processing loan accounts, including disbursements and diligently following up on outstanding debts.
  • Maintaining intercompany reconciliations to ensure consistency across different entities.
  • Contributing to Group Reporting, specifically with HFM submissions, and managing budget centre and account hierarchies.
  • Undertaking ad-hoc tasks, reports, and service requests as they arise.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

What They're Looking For

Old Mutual is searching for an individual with a strong educational foundation and practical experience in finance. While a tertiary finance qualification is advantageous, a matriculation certificate is the minimum requirement. Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills are non-negotiable, as this tool will be extensively used for data manipulation and reporting.

Furthermore, prior finance experience is highly beneficial. Exposure to systems such as Oracle, HFM (Hyperion Financial Management), MDRT, FRP, Accurate, and IDU would be a significant asset, though not strictly required. A good understanding of financial processes and systems is also valued.

Beyond technical skills, the ideal candidate will possess strong core and technical competencies, including:

  • **Collaboration and Communication:** The ability to work effectively with others and communicate clearly.
  • **Customer Focus:** A commitment to putting the customer first in all dealings.
  • **Transactional Accounting:** Proficiency in day-to-day accounting operations.

  • **Management Reporting:** The capability to prepare and present management reports.
  • **Internal Controls and Risk Management:** An understanding of maintaining financial integrity.
  • **Teamwork:** Being a supportive and contributing member of the team.
  • **Resourcefulness:** The ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and demonstrate energy and resourcefulness.
