Job Description

Liberty is seeking a seasoned Senior Manager to lead their Management Reporting, Insights, and Analytics function on a three-month contract basis. Based in Johannesburg, this pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping and executing the organisation's reporting strategy and framework. The incumbent will guide a dedicated team focused on transforming raw data into actionable intelligence, providing critical insights that inform executive-level decision-making across the business.

The Scope of the Role

This position demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of financial reporting and analytics within the financial services industry. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of insightful reports that illuminate key business performance indicators and strategic trends. This involves not only ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of reporting but also fostering a culture of proactive analysis and insight generation within your team. The ultimate goal is to equip executive leadership with the robust data-driven understanding necessary to navigate complex business landscapes and make informed strategic choices.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

The Senior Manager will spearhead the implementation of the established reporting strategy and framework, ensuring its effective application across the relevant departments. A core aspect of the role involves leading and mentoring the Internal, Analytics, and Insights Reporting Team. This leadership will extend to guiding the team in performing detailed analyses, identifying critical trends, and developing compelling presentations that articulate significant findings and strategic implications.

Key duties will include:

  • Driving the implementation of the reporting strategy and framework.
  • Leading the team responsible for internal reporting, analytics, and insights.
  • Ensuring the development of intelligence through in-depth analysis.
  • Producing insightful and meaningful reports on key findings and business performance.
  • Presenting findings and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Managing external service providers to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of financial reporting, where applicable.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates will need a minimum of eight years of progressive experience, predominantly within the financial services sector. A strong foundation in financial modelling, comprehensive financial reporting, and advanced analytics is crucial. A deep technical understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), banking financial reporting principles, and credit risk analysis is a prerequisite.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to enhance existing reporting processes, proactively identify potential risks, and consistently deliver strategic insights derived from thorough financial and statistical analysis. A solid grasp of banking financial structures and the capability to translate complex data sets into clear, actionable recommendations for an executive audience are essential. Furthermore, experience in managing external service providers to ensure the precise and punctual delivery of financial reports will be highly valued. A relevant first degree in Business Commerce, Finance, or Accounting is required.

This contract position offers an opportunity to contribute to a leading financial services group, applying your expertise in a critical strategic function. The insights generated will directly influence executive decision-making. In South Africa, roles at this senior level, particularly those involving financial reporting, analytics, and strategic insights within large financial institutions, typically command competitive remuneration packages. Such positions often pave the way for further leadership opportunities within the organisation or the broader financial sector.
