Job Description
If you are a motivated sales professional looking to build your career within a major financial services group, this 12-month fixed-term contract offers a significant opportunity to hone your skills in a fast-paced outbound environment. Working within the Liberty/Standard Bank ecosystem in Cape Town, you will be responsible for connecting with clients to provide essential protection solutions, specifically focusing on life insurance and funeral cover.
About the role
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on meeting targets and enjoys the challenge of outbound telesales. As an Outbound Telesales Consultant, you will be the bridge between the organisation’s financial products and the clients who need them. Your primary objective is to manage the full sales cycle—from initiating contact and identifying needs to closing the deal and ensuring all administrative requirements are met.
The role demands a balance between aggressive sales performance and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. Because you are dealing with financial products, it is essential that you can communicate complex policy information clearly and transparently, ensuring that every client you engage with understands the value and conditions of the insurance they are purchasing.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily workflow will centre on high-volume outbound calling and virtual engagement, requiring high levels of resilience and excellent communication skills. Key responsibilities include:
- Driving the sales of funeral and life insurance products through proactive telephonic outreach.
- Conducting needs-based conversations to determine the specific protection requirements of both prospective and existing clients.
- Clearly articulating product features, benefits, and premium structures to ensure informed client decision-making.
- Managing the end-to-end sales process, including the accurate capture and submission of insurance applications.
- Maintaining meticulous records within the customer relationship management (CRM) system to track performance and compliance.
- Ensuring all sales activities align with FAIS (Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services) regulations and internal operational standards.
What they're looking for
The team is looking for a self-starter who is comfortable with high-pressure environments. Success in this role is measured by your ability to convert leads into active policies. To be considered, you should bring the following to the table:
- A minimum of 12 months’ continuous experience in a target-driven outbound sales or telesales role, preferably within the banking or insurance sectors.
- A formal qualification, specifically a National Certificate in Banking (NQF 5) or another FAIS-recognised equivalent.
- Proof of meeting FAIS Fit and Proper requirements.
- A proven track record of handling sales objections, maintaining high conversion rates, and consistently hitting targets.
- Strong technical aptitude for navigating banking and CRM software.
For those pursuing a career in South African financial services, this role acts as a solid entry point into a large-scale institution. Telesales roles within major banks typically offer competitive base salaries paired with attractive performance-based commissions. Success in a 12-month contract like this can open doors to permanent positions or lateral moves into advisory or management roles within the broader group, making it an excellent platform for those looking to formalise their experience in the insurance sector.
Requirements
- National Certificate in Banking (NQF 5), FAIS-recognised, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Must meet the applicable FAIS Fit and Proper requirements for the role.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 12 months' continuous experience in a target-driven telesales or outbound sales environment, preferably within banking, insurance or financial services.
- Experience engaging clients telephonically, identifying sales opportunities and promoting products or services.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets, handle objections and convert client conversations into successful sales.
- Basic understanding of insurance products, particularly Funeral Plans and Life Insurance, would be advantageous.
- Experience working with sales targets, conversion rates, customer relationship management systems and sales reporting.
Behavioural Competencies:
- Checking Things
- Convincing People
- Developing Expertise
- Embracing Change
- Meeting Timescales
Technical Competencies:
- Application & Submission Verification (Consumer Banking)
