Job Description

An exciting opportunity has opened up for a seasoned finance professional to join the team in Johannesburg. In this capacity, you will serve as a linchpin for the Costing and Recoveries department, ensuring that the financial architecture supporting various business units remains robust, accurate, and aligned with the organisation's broader strategic goals.

This role is ideal for a data-driven individual who thrives on the intersection of deep financial analysis and technical system management. You will be instrumental in building, refining, and implementing costing models that translate complex data into actionable business intelligence.

About the role

As a key member of the finance division, you will take full accountability for the functional support provided to internal stakeholders. Your primary objective is to maintain control over costing processes and recovery mechanisms, ensuring that every financial process is transparent and efficient. You will act as the bridge between raw data and executive decision-making, providing the insights necessary to drive growth across the group's diverse client segments.

Success in this position requires a blend of rigorous technical ability and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You won’t just be reporting on costs; you will be actively involved in shaping how the organisation budgets, forecasts, and allocates resources to maximise value.

What you’ll do

Your daily responsibilities will revolve around the integrity of financial systems and the delivery of high-level management accounting support. You will be expected to:

  • Design, implement, and maintain sophisticated costing and recovery models that cater to various business areas.
  • Leverage advanced SQL capabilities to extract and synthesise large datasets, transforming them into clear financial insights.
  • Manage end-to-end cost allocation processes, ensuring that budgeting and forecasting align with company standards.
  • Oversee the reporting cycle, providing accurate financial summaries that guide management in their strategic deliberations.
  • Monitor and improve existing financial control frameworks to mitigate risk and increase operational efficiency.

What they're looking for

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or financial field, such as Financial Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, or Cost and Management Accounting. Beyond your academic credentials, you should bring a strong track record of professional experience in financial reporting and cost management environments.

Key requirements include:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in finance, specifically within costing analysis or management accounting.
  • Proven technical proficiency in enterprise finance platforms such as SAP ECC or Business Cost Management (BCM) systems.
  • Advanced SQL skills and a demonstrated ability to handle and interpret massive volumes of operational data.
  • A strong grasp of transfer pricing, financial planning, and the interpretation of complex financial statements.
  • Excellent behavioural competencies, including the ability to document facts clearly, uphold high professional standards, and navigate changing business landscapes with confidence.

For professionals working within the South African financial services sector, this level of role often serves as a significant career milestone. Finance Managers in Johannesburg, particularly those with advanced technical and data-analysis skills, are highly valued. This position offers a pathway toward senior financial leadership or specialised roles in financial strategy and business architecture, providing a stable yet intellectually demanding environment in one of the continent’s most prominent financial institutions.
