Job Description

If you are a seasoned Human Resources professional looking to transition into a strategic role within the financial services sector, this contract opportunity with Liberty offers a chance to influence the human capital landscape of a major institution. As a People and Culture (P&C) Business Partner, you will operate as a strategic advisor, bridging the gap between high-level business objectives and the day-to-day employee experience.

This role is designed for those who can navigate complex organizational structures and thrive in a fast-paced environment where data-backed decision-making is as important as emotional intelligence.

About the role

In this capacity, you will provide comprehensive end-to-end P&C support to specific business portfolios. Your mandate is to ensure that the people strategy is not merely a support function but a primary driver of commercial success. You will work closely with senior leadership to resolve intricate workplace challenges, ensuring that interventions are both sustainable and aligned with the overarching mission of the group.

As an advisor, you will be expected to champion organizational change and foster an environment that is both high-performing and deeply engaged. Success in this role requires a candidate who can translate complex data into actionable insights, helping business units pivot or scale effectively through thoughtful workforce planning and talent management.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily responsibilities will revolve around acting as a consultant to business stakeholders, ensuring that P&C initiatives are integrated into the fabric of the business. You will be expected to:

  • **Strategise:** Develop and implement P&C initiatives that directly support business-specific goals and performance metrics.
  • **Advise:** Act as a trusted partner to senior leaders, providing guidance on leadership development, organisational structure, and complex employee relations.
  • **Analyze:** Utilize HR metrics and people analytics to measure the efficacy of interventions and advocate for data-driven improvements.
  • **Manage Change:** Lead organizational change projects, ensuring that shifts in strategy are communicated effectively and adopted across the business.
  • **Facilitate:** Support succession planning, talent acquisition, and workforce optimization efforts to ensure the business is future-proofed.

What they're looking for

To be successful in this position, you need more than just generalist HR knowledge; you need a strategic mindset. The employer is looking for individuals who can demonstrate:

  • **Experience:** A minimum of 5 to 10 years in an HR or P&C Business Partnering role, preferably within large, complex, or multinational organizations.
  • **Education:** A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Management, or a related field. Postgraduate qualifications and professional certifications (such as SABPP) are considered a significant advantage.
  • **Technical Proficiency:** A deep understanding of employment legislation in South Africa, alongside expertise in talent management, performance frameworks, and people analytics.
  • **Soft Skills:** Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing, and consultation skills. You must be comfortable presenting insights to senior executives and navigating the nuances of a multinational financial services environment.
  • **Behavioral Strengths:** An aptitude for inclusive facilitation, integrative leadership, and the ability to articulate complex concepts to a variety of internal audiences.

For an experienced HR Business Partner in South Africa, a role of this seniority at a large financial institution typically commands a competitive remuneration package, often ranging from R900,000 to R1.4 million per annum depending on the complexity of the portfolio and the specific level of the appointment. While this is currently a contract or temporary position, it serves as a high-visibility platform for professionals looking to enhance their resume within the banking and insurance sectors, where P&C leaders are increasingly expected to function as commercial strategists rather than just administrative overseers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Management, Organisational Development, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Business Administration, or a related discipline will be advantageous.

  • Relevant training or certification in areas such as Change Management, Employee Relations, Talent Management, Leadership Development, or People Analytics will be beneficial.
