Job Description
Liberty is seeking a dedicated Compliance Monitoring Specialist to join their Johannesburg team. This role is integral to the global implementation of the Group Compliance Monitoring methodology, ensuring that all operations and legal entities within the organisation adhere to relevant regulations, codes of conduct, and best business practices. You will also play a key part in developing and implementing a combined assurance approach across all Compliance Assurance Functions.
About the Role
As a Compliance Monitoring Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting high-quality reviews from the initial planning stages through to the final reporting. Your work will directly contribute to fostering a strong compliance culture across the Standard Bank Group. This involves not only identifying potential risks but also recommending and helping to implement effective mitigation strategies. You will be expected to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including business unit heads, to ensure that compliance objectives are met and that the organisation operates within the bounds of prudent risk management.

Key Responsibilities
The Compliance Monitoring Specialist will undertake a range of critical responsibilities to ensure robust compliance frameworks are maintained and enhanced. Key duties include:
- **Conducting Compliance Reviews:** Perform comprehensive reviews of business activities to assess adherence to laws, regulations, internal policies, and industry best practices. This includes the planning, execution, and documentation of these reviews.
- **Developing Monitoring Methodologies:** Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Group Compliance Monitoring methodology and associated processes.
- **Data Analysis and Insight:** Utilise data analytics tools to support compliance monitoring. This involves scripting analytical test scripts, visualising insights, and contributing to the development of continuous monitoring capabilities.
- **Reporting and Communication:** Prepare detailed reports on review findings, identifying areas of non-compliance, risks, and recommending corrective actions. Effectively communicate these findings to relevant stakeholders.
- **Risk Mitigation:** Collaborate with business units to implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance requirements are met.
- **Promoting Compliance Culture:** Champion a culture of compliance and good governance throughout the organisation, thereby contributing to effective risk management.
- **Governance Structures:** Participate in effective governance structures to meet the requirements of regulatory bodies, industry mandates, and internal policies.

To excel in this role, candidates will need a strong background in compliance, risk management, or auditing, particularly within the financial services sector. A first-degree qualification in Audit or Legal is required.
Essential experience and skills include:
- **Compliance Monitoring/Auditing Experience:** A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in compliance monitoring, auditing, or risk management. This experience should ideally be gained within a financial services organisation or one of the "big four" auditing firms.
- **Data Analytics Proficiency:** Demonstrated understanding and practical application of data analytics tools for compliance monitoring. This includes the ability to script analytical test scripts and utilise data visualisation tools.
- **Leadership and Stakeholder Management:** Proven experience in leading a team of risk and compliance specialists and effectively working with business unit heads to achieve risk mitigation objectives.
- **Financial Services Sector Knowledge:** Experience within the Corporate and Investment Banking sector, with a solid understanding of how the business and its products are structured and operate.
- **Behavioural Competencies:** Strong abilities in adopting practical approaches, articulating information clearly, checking details meticulously, exploring possibilities, generating innovative ideas, interacting effectively with people, interpreting data, making sound decisions, providing valuable insights, fostering teamwork, maintaining a positive outlook, and upholding high standards.
- **Technical Competencies:** A good grasp of the financial industry's regulatory framework, legal compliance principles, and the promotion of good governance, risk, and control practices. Strategic planning and reporting skills are also important.

- Monitor compliance with laws and regulations in order to facilitate the establishment of a compliance culture that contributes to prudent risk management. OR Participate in effective governance structures in order to meet the requirements imposed by governmental bodies, regulators, industry mandates or internal policies.
