Job Description

Liberty, a prominent financial services group, is seeking a skilled Property Risk Analyst to join their team in Johannesburg. This role is crucial for managing and enhancing the credit risk profile of a specific portfolio, ensuring it aligns with both internal objectives and external regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be instrumental in navigating the complexities of credit risk throughout its entire lifecycle, from initial origination to eventual closure.

About the Role

This position offers a significant opportunity to contribute to a robust credit risk management framework. The Property Risk Analyst will be responsible for a range of analytical tasks that directly impact the health of the assigned portfolio. This involves delving deep into data, identifying potential risks, and developing strategies to mitigate them, all while ensuring full compliance with South African legislation and industry best practices. The scope of the role spans multiple facets of credit risk, including the initial stages of loan origination, ongoing account management, collections processes, and payment monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

The core of this role revolves around sophisticated credit risk analysis and management. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing detailed analyses of credit risk across the full spectrum of the credit lifecycle for a designated portfolio.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for risk management, aiming to meet and exceed quantitative targets.
  • Ensuring that all products and services offered within the portfolio strictly adhere to relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks.
  • Conducting in-depth assessments to identify, evaluate, and respond to credit risk exposures.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of risk management processes, aligning with established organisational policies and industry best practices.
  • Communicating findings and recommendations clearly, both verbally and through written reports.
  • Managing workflows and projects efficiently to ensure timely delivery of analytical outputs.

What They're Looking For

Liberty is seeking an individual with a strong foundation in analytical and quantitative disciplines, coupled with substantial experience in banking and credit risk management. Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • A first-degree qualification in a relevant field, such as Mathematical Sciences, Risk Management, or Quantitative Studies.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in credit risk analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience across the entire credit risk management value chain, encompassing originations, account management, collections, and payments.
  • Proven experience within a credit risk or a related analytical environment, showcasing a deep understanding of risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and derive actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders across various levels.
  • A proactive approach to work, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to upholding high standards.
  • Adaptability to change and a willingness to embrace new approaches and technologies within risk management.

This role is well-suited for a driven professional who thrives in a dynamic financial environment and is passionate about contributing to the responsible growth of financial services in South Africa.

In South Africa, a Property Risk Analyst with a few years of experience in a financial institution can expect competitive remuneration, often placing them within a mid-to-senior level salary bracket.
