Job Description
Liberty, a prominent financial services group, is seeking a skilled Distribution Manager to lead its operations in Worcester, Western Cape. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effective functioning and performance of a defined distribution network, encompassing branches, Points of Representation, and various related channels. The primary goal is to maintain a sustainable, profitable, and client-focused distribution mix that aligns with broader provincial objectives.
About the Role
The Distribution Manager will be responsible for the overall delivery of sales, service, operational, and financial performance across their assigned distribution area. This involves not just meeting targets but actively driving client-centric distribution strategies. The incumbent will play a crucial part in implementing local market initiatives and marketing solutions designed to foster balance sheet growth, improve income statement performance, enhance client retention, and elevate the overall customer experience. This position requires a leader capable of optimising channel effectiveness and service delivery across a spectrum of client touchpoints, from physical branches and ATMs to digital platforms and devices, ensuring that the frontline teams are well-equipped to meet evolving client demands.
Furthermore, the role demands strong leadership in people development. The Distribution Manager will be tasked with leading, coaching, and developing branch and distribution teams, embedding principles of effective people management, performance enhancement, employee engagement, and lean leadership. The ultimate aim is to cultivate a high-performance culture within the team. Risk management and regulatory compliance are also core components, necessitating oversight of quality assurance and adherence to Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) requirements across the distribution area, including fulfilling Key Individual duties where applicable, to minimise operational risks and ensure strict regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
The scope of responsibilities for this Distribution Manager role is comprehensive and includes:
- Leading and managing the sales, service, operational, and financial performance of the distribution network within the appointed region, ensuring alignment with provincial strategic goals and business growth priorities.
- Developing and executing client-focused distribution tactics and local market initiatives to support overall business objectives like balance sheet growth and improved profitability.
- Overseeing the optimisation of various distribution channels, including branches and digital platforms, to ensure efficient service delivery and effective response to client needs.
- Spearheading the development and performance of branch and distribution teams through effective people management, coaching, and fostering a positive, high-performance work environment.
- Ensuring robust risk management, compliance, and quality assurance practices are in place, meeting all regulatory and FAIS requirements to mitigate losses and maintain operational integrity.
What They're Looking For
To be successful in this role, candidates will need a strong foundation in financial services management, leadership, and a deep understanding of distribution dynamics. Essential qualifications include a completed Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7 or higher) in Business Commerce, Finance, Banking, or Management, with a FAIS-recognised qualification. Crucially, candidates must meet the FAIS Fit and Proper requirements, including holding FAIS Representative certification.
The required experience spans five to seven years in relevant branch, distribution, or banking leadership roles. Candidates should possess a proven track record in branch management, encompassing sales, customer service, people leadership, risk management, and financial accountability. A solid grasp of distribution performance metrics, client engagement strategies, operational controls, and financial management within the banking sector is non-negotiable. While experience leading teams across multiple branches or client-facing channels is advantageous, demonstrated leadership in a complex distribution environment is key.
Beyond technical proficiencies, the ideal candidate will exhibit strong behavioural competencies such as leading and directing people, influencing stakeholders, making sound decisions, interpreting data for insights, driving change and practical execution, resolving conflicts, and managing escalated client issues effectively within a fast-paced, performance-driven setting.
