Job Description

Unlocking Project Insights in Banking

Liberty is seeking a dedicated Data Analyst to join their Project Management Office (PMO) within the Personal and Private Banking South Africa (PPBSA) division. This crucial role will be instrumental in transforming raw project and change initiative data into actionable insights, empowering informed decision-making and providing clear visibility into performance across the organisation. The successful candidate will play a key part in supporting the ongoing change journey by analysing trends, identifying risks, and highlighting realised benefits.

The core of this position lies in translating complex data into understandable narratives. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining sophisticated reporting platforms, dynamic dashboards, and intuitive analytical tools. A significant focus will be placed on enhancing data quality, streamlining reporting processes, and driving greater automation to ensure efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of data analysis and reporting functions. You will meticulously analyse and interpret project and change data, seeking out trends, patterns, and potential risks that can inform strategic decisions. A key output will be the creation and upkeep of reports, dashboards, and visualisations that clearly communicate project performance, implementation status, user adoption rates, and the tangible benefits achieved.

You will be adept at consolidating, validating, and managing data originating from various sources, ensuring that all reporting is accurate, complete, and fit for purpose. The role also involves the proactive maintenance and enhancement of existing PMO reporting tools and platforms. Identifying opportunities for automation, simplification, and continuous improvement within reporting processes will be a vital aspect of your contribution. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with project, change, and business stakeholders to thoroughly understand their reporting needs, translating these requirements into meaningful data-driven insights that facilitate successful project delivery and support the broader organisational change agenda.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, you will require a strong academic foundation, typically holding a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Diploma in a relevant quantitative field such as Data Analytics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business/Commerce.

Professionally, you should bring 2-3 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, or project analytics. Experience within the banking or financial services sector, or another complex organisational environment, would be highly advantageous.

Essential technical skills include hands-on proficiency with Power BI, SQL, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis, dashboard development, and creating compelling visualisations. You should have practical experience working with multiple data sources, including extracting, cleaning, transforming, validating, and consolidating data, with a solid understanding of tools like Power Query and DAX. The ability to translate complex data into clear insights, trends, and actionable recommendations is paramount. Exposure to reporting automation, data quality principles, data governance, and the controlled use of data within regulated environments is expected.

While not mandatory, experience with programming languages like Python, familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) or generative AI concepts, and exposure to modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake) or project reporting tools (e.g., Jira) would be considered a valuable asset.

In South Africa, Data Analyst roles within the financial services sector can offer competitive remuneration, often ranging from R30,000 to R55,000 per month depending on experience and specific responsibilities. Major financial institutions like Liberty, alongside other large banks and insurance companies, are significant employers of data professionals. Career progression often leads to senior analyst positions, data science roles, or management within analytics teams.
