Job Description

In the dynamic world of private banking, FNB is seeking a dedicated Lending Analyst to join their team in Johannesburg. This pivotal role is designed for an individual with a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to excellence, focusing on supporting the lending operations for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs). You will be instrumental in managing intricate lending relationships, ensuring seamless processing, and upholding the highest standards of client service and compliance. Handling sensitive financial information with discretion will be a cornerstone of your responsibilities.

The Core of the Role: Processing and Client Interaction

As a Lending Analyst, your day-to-day activities will revolve around the meticulous processing of secured lending applications. This involves rigorously reviewing and verifying the completeness and accuracy of all submitted documentation, a critical step in safeguarding the bank's interests. You'll be responsible for the systematic collection and organisation of essential financial documents from clients, which may include tax returns, detailed financial statements, and asset verification proofs.

A key aspect of your function will be to conduct preliminary assessments of loan applications, evaluating them against the bank's established lending criteria. You'll work closely with Lending Specialists, assisting them in the preparation of comprehensive credit applications. Maintaining an organised tracking system for application statuses and ensuring consistent, timely communication with clients throughout the process will be paramount.

Furthermore, this role demands exceptional client service and communication skills. You will serve as a primary point of contact for clients' lending-related queries, building and maintaining strong relationships. Collaborating effectively with the broader relationship team to gain a deep understanding of client needs and preferences is essential. Keeping clients and internal stakeholders informed about the progress of their loan applications will be a regular task. You will also be involved in scheduling and preparing documentation for client meetings, ensuring that all interactions are professional and productive.

Upholding Standards: Documentation, Compliance, and Administration

Beyond the frontline processing and client interaction, the Lending Analyst plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the loan portfolio. This includes actively monitoring existing loan portfolios, ensuring adherence to loan covenants, and tracking payment schedules. Preparing regular, concise reports on portfolio status will be a key deliverable, providing valuable insights to management.

Another significant responsibility involves monitoring collateral valuations and margin requirements, crucial for risk management. You will also lend support to the annual loan review and renewal processes, ensuring all necessary documentation and assessments are in order.

The administrative demands of the role are also substantial. You will be involved in scheduling and coordinating loan committee meetings, as well as preparing presentation materials for these critical reviews. Maintaining the lending department's calendar and tracking important deadlines will be vital for operational efficiency. Generating both standard and custom reports for management, and assisting with special projects related to lending operations, will further contribute to the smooth functioning of the department.

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates will require a recognised qualification from the FSCA, specifically a degree at NQF Level 7, along with the RE5 qualification.

For individuals aspiring to a career in private banking lending within South Africa, roles like this offer a solid foundation. Typical remuneration can vary significantly based on experience and specific responsibilities, but often falls within a competitive range for analytical and client-facing positions in the financial services sector. Major banking groups like FNB are significant employers of such professionals, and there are clear pathways for growth into more senior lending specialist or relationship management roles, particularly for those who demonstrate strong analytical acumen and a commitment to client service.
