Job Description

Takealot, a prominent player in South Africa's e-commerce landscape, is seeking a skilled Cross-Border Operations Analyst to become part of their dynamic team in Cape Town. As a rapidly expanding and innovative online retailer, Takealot is on the lookout for individuals who are not only intelligent and creative but also diligently hardworking and possess a strong sense of integrity. The company fosters an environment where challenges are embraced and where contributing to significant growth is a daily reality, promising a career that is anything but monotonous.

About the Role

This position is geared towards an analytical mind capable of tackling complex, and sometimes ill-defined, operational challenges. The successful candidate will be instrumental in dissecting intricate problems, pinpointing core issues, and developing actionable insights. A key facet of the role involves proactively identifying opportunities for business enhancement through rigorous data analysis. This requires a deep dive into Takealot's extensive data resources, with an emphasis on understanding which datasets are most relevant and how they can be best leveraged to answer critical business questions.

Key Responsibilities

The Cross-Border Operations Analyst will engage in a variety of analytical tasks designed to optimise operations. This includes:

  • Investigating and resolving complex, ambiguous operational problems by identifying root causes and proposing solutions.
  • Conducting in-depth data analysis using tools such as SQL, MS Excel, and other analytical platforms to uncover business opportunities and trends.
  • Developing and maintaining automated workflows, reports, and dashboards to support emerging business needs and streamline operational processes.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data outputs through validation processes, generating descriptive statistics, and extracting meaningful insights.
  • Prototyping data analytics tools and solutions to support the operational requirements of various marketplace teams.
  • Building forecasting models and running simulations to assess the potential impact of proposed changes to operational procedures, thereby facilitating evidence-based decision-making.
  • Continuously learning and understanding the breadth of Takealot's data resources and how to effectively utilise them.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation in quantitative disciplines and practical experience in data analysis. Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering, or Operations Research, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two to four years of professional experience in an analytics-focused role.
  • Proven experience working with databases and proficiency in SQL within a business context.
  • Demonstrable experience in the design and execution of analytical projects from conception to completion.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a keen eye for detail.
  • A strong desire to innovate and contribute to the growth of a fast-paced e-commerce environment.

This role offers an exciting opportunity within a leading South African e-commerce company. Similar analyst positions in South Africa typically command a competitive remuneration package, reflecting the demand for skilled professionals in the tech and retail sectors. Takealot, as an Equal Opportunity Employer, prioritises inclusivity. Career progression within such a role can lead to more senior analytical positions or specialised roles within operations management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering or Operations Research or Similar degree.
  • 2-4 years of experience working in Analytics.
  • Experience in working with databases and SQL in a business environment.
  • Prior experience in design and execution of analytical projects.
