Job Description
Superbalist, a leading name in South Africa’s digital fashion retail space, is preparing for their busiest time of the year. As the festive season approaches, the organisation is looking for a dedicated Online Fashion Assistant to join their team in Cape Town on a fixed-term contract. This is a fast-paced, high-energy environment where efficiency and customer-centricity are the primary drivers of success.
The festive period, spanning from late September through the beginning of January, represents a peak surge in demand for eCommerce platforms. During this window, the customer service team acts as the face of the brand, ensuring that every shopper receives the high-performance, premium experience that Superbalist is known for.
About the role
This position is perfect for someone who thrives under pressure and enjoys the challenge of managing multiple communication channels simultaneously. You will be at the frontline of the brand, engaging directly with customers who are navigating the busy holiday shopping season. Your goal is to move quickly, resolve issues with precision, and maintain a professional demeanor even during high-volume periods.
The role requires a high degree of accountability. You will be expected to take ownership of each interaction, ensuring that every query is handled with a solution-oriented mindset. Because the team works closely together to maintain low response times, your ability to collaborate and support your colleagues will be just as important as your individual technical output.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily contributions will focus on maintaining the high service standards that define the Superbalist experience. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
- Providing front-line support across multiple channels, including live chat, email, and telephonic inquiries.
- Efficiently processing returns and exchanges to ensure that logistics remain smooth and customer satisfaction remains high.
- Documenting customer interactions meticulously to ensure that data is accurate and future service can be improved.
- Educating shoppers on platform features to proactively prevent recurring issues.
- Working alongside the broader team to meet strict targets for response times and resolution quality.
What they're looking for
Superbalist places a heavy emphasis on talent, drive, and a competitive spirit. They aren't looking for someone who just completes tasks; they want someone who is inquisitive, eager to learn, and ready to challenge the status quo. To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- An exceptional command of the English language, both in written and verbal communication.
- Strong technical proficiency, including fast typing skills and the ability to navigate support software with ease.
- The emotional resilience required to remain calm and adaptable in a high-pressure, rapidly changing work environment.
- A logical approach to problem-solving, coupled with the confidence to make sound independent judgments.
- A team-oriented attitude, recognising that individual performance directly impacts the collective success of the department.
Superbalist is an equal opportunity employer and actively encourages applications from previously disadvantaged groups and individuals with disabilities.
For those entering the South African eCommerce space, this role offers an excellent entry point into one of the country's most prominent retail organisations. Customer service roles in local eCommerce during the peak festive season are often stepping stones to more permanent roles in logistics, retail management, or digital operations. While salaries for seasonal support staff in South Africa vary based on experience, these roles generally offer competitive hourly rates for the retail sector, providing valuable experience in a high-performance corporate environment.
Requirements
- Excellent command of English, both verbal and written
- Proficient in typing, phone handling, and computer navigation
- Logical problem-solving approach and capacity to make sound judgments
- High accountability, integrity, and ownership of responsibilities
- Team-oriented with a keen awareness of your impact on others
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, delivering high-quality results quickly
- Competitive spirit with a strong drive for innovation and achievement
- Tech-savvy with outstanding computer skills
- Inquisitive and eager to learn, constantly challenging the status quo
- Deep commitment to customer service excellence
- Emotional resilience, comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to change
