Job Description

The Takealot Group, a prominent force in South Africa's e-commerce landscape, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic individual to step into the role of Team Leader within their Cape Town operations. As a rapidly expanding organisation, Takealot thrives on bringing together motivated, intelligent, and ethical individuals who are eager to contribute to a fast-paced and challenging environment. This is an opportunity to be part of a company that values innovation and offers a stimulating work experience for those keen on building and achieving great things.

About the Role

This position centres on leading a team of Online Shopping Assistants, ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of customer service. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of both quality and productivity, directly impacting the customer experience. It’s a hands-on leadership role that requires a proactive approach to managing team performance, resolving issues, and fostering a positive and productive work atmosphere. The role demands a strategic mindset for identifying areas of improvement while maintaining day-to-day operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Team Leader at Takealot are multifaceted, requiring a blend of people management, quality assurance, and operational oversight. Key duties include:

  • Monitoring and managing team attendance and punctuality, ensuring optimal staffing levels.
  • Conducting quality assessments of customer interactions across various channels, including voice and email, to uphold stringent quality and compliance standards.
  • Ensuring the team consistently meets productivity targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as set out by internal service level agreements.
  • Identifying and escalating system or process inefficiencies that could affect the customer's journey, with a view to proposing enhancements.
  • Proactively spotting and escalating problem areas, emerging trends, and training needs to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Managing the probation period for team members through regular performance discussions and constructive coaching.
  • Delivering individual and group coaching sessions aimed at improving performance and achieving target metrics.
  • Motivating and driving the team to achieve set objectives and targets.
  • Reporting on the overall quality of customer interactions for each agent within the team.
  • Collaborating with other internal departments to resolve customer queries and escalating customer-facing challenges to the appropriate parties.
  • Assessing service failures, identifying root causes, and implementing actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Taking ownership of customer issues to ensure swift and satisfactory resolution.
  • Managing all internal and external customer service complaints, ensuring a professional and effective response.
  • Communicating company policies and procedures to the team, and actively managing and resolving people-related issues, including conflicts, absenteeism, and industrial relations matters.
  • Maintaining a highly focused and motivated team environment.
  • Ensuring that minimum contact centre service levels are met on a daily basis.
  • Reviewing and proposing solutions to operational issues identified during daily activities.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, candidates will need a solid foundation in customer service and a proven ability to lead and motivate a team. Essential requirements include:

  • A minimum of 18 months of experience in a customer service role, ideally in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • A Senior Certificate qualification.
  • Post-matric study or relevant tertiary education would be advantageous.
  • The flexibility to work rotational shifts, which may include weekends, public holidays, and overnight work, to meet operational demands.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and manage a team.
  • A proactive, problem-solving approach with a keen eye for detail.
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive team culture and driving performance excellence.
