By doing so, the Specialist will play a crucial part in effectively managing liquidity risk, mitigating interest rate risk within the banking book, and optimising the overall balance sheet for enhanced financial performance and stability.

Key Responsibilities

This position requires a proactive approach to reporting, measuring, and maintaining the integrity of the balance sheet. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all financial operations align with established policies and regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing strategies to effectively manage liquidity risk within the allocated entities.
  • Developing and executing plans to control and manage interest rate risk in the banking book.
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities to optimise the balance sheet for profitability and capital efficiency.
  • Regularly reporting on key treasury and capital management metrics to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with various departments to gather data and ensure accurate financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in finance and accounting, coupled with practical experience in treasury and capital management. A proactive mindset and the ability to interpret complex financial data are essential.

**Key Requirements include:**

  • A first-degree qualification in Finance and Accounting or a related field.
  • Approximately 2-3 years of direct experience in treasury or capital management.
  • Proven experience within the banking sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and interpret financial statements.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis, with sound Excel skills.
  • Experience in effectively engaging with middle to senior management.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and diverse stakeholder groups, both within South Africa and across African Regions.
  • A strong understanding of financial analysis, liquidity management principles, and capital optimisation techniques.

The role also calls for strong behavioural competencies, including the ability to articulate information clearly, a meticulous approach to checking details, a drive for developing expertise, and proficiency in documenting facts and interpreting data. You should be adept at exploring possibilities, generating innovative ideas, and meeting established timescales, all while fostering teamwork and upholding high professional standards.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading Africa-focused financial services group. Standard Bank Group is known for its commitment to creating growth across the continent and providing its employees with career-enhancing opportunities. Working here means collaborating with talented professionals and contributing to meaningful initiatives for clients and communities.
