About the Role
The core of this position lies in providing comprehensive financial and value management advisory support. This involves actively engaging with stakeholders across an allocated business area, coordinating finance-related activities, and ensuring that financial planning and execution align seamlessly with both the finance and business strategies. You'll be instrumental in translating complex financial data into actionable insights that empower business leaders. Success in this role means not only understanding the numbers but also communicating their implications clearly and persuasively to achieve desired outcomes.
The position requires a proactive approach, demonstrating a strong ability to adopt practical solutions, convince others through reasoned arguments, and direct people effectively. Embracing change, establishing rapport with diverse teams, and exploring new possibilities are also key attributes. You’ll need to be adept at generating ideas, interacting constructively with stakeholders, and interpreting data to provide valuable insights. A strong sense of teamwork and an unwavering commitment to upholding high standards will be essential throughout your tenure.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will span a broad spectrum of financial management and advisory functions. This includes:
- Providing expert financial advisory support to a specific business area.
- Coordinating and integrating finance-related activities to support strategic objectives.
- Translating business needs into financial plans and strategies.
- Monitoring financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
- Preparing and presenting financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to senior management.
- Acting as a key liaison between the central finance function and the allocated business unit.
- Ensuring robust financial and accounting controls are in place and adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Supporting financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
- Assisting in the preparation of financial statements and other regulatory filings.
- Conducting root cause analysis for financial issues and recommending solutions.
- Leveraging statistical and mathematical analysis to inform financial decisions.
- Advising on transfer pricing matters where applicable.
What They're Looking For
To excel in this role, candidates will typically possess a first-degree qualification in Finance or Accounting, coupled with 8 to 10 years of significant experience. A proven track record in finance business partnering and finance & value management is essential. You should have demonstrable experience in executing financial management activities and processes that span across multiple finance capabilities (such as tax, reporting, and forecasting) and potentially different jurisdictions. Furthermore, some experience in leading finance teams and a strong ability to interpret and communicate financial data to diverse business stakeholders are highly valued.
A particularly strong background in property finance is a key requirement. This includes a proven capacity to support and partner with real estate and property development operations. Candidates must possess a sound understanding of property investment principles, financial modelling techniques, asset valuation methodologies, and portfolio performance management. This expertise will be critical in enabling informed decision-making across the business, particularly in complex property-related transactions and strategic initiatives.
In South Africa, finance management roles such as this often command competitive salaries, reflecting the strategic importance and required expertise. While specific figures vary widely by company size, industry, and specific responsibilities, advanced financial advisory positions typically fall within a range that acknowledges the need for specialized skills and experience.
