Job Description
This internship opportunity at OUTsurance in Centurion offers a dynamic entry point into the world of eLearning content development and Learning Management System (LMS) administration. If you are a driven individual looking to gain practical experience within a leading South African financial services company, this role could be an excellent springboard for your career.
The core of this internship revolves around supporting the eLearning Administrators in ensuring the smooth operational performance of OUTsurance's LMS. You will become intimately familiar with the system, learning to identify and resolve any technical issues or anomalies. A key objective will be to contribute to creating efficiencies within the eLearning environment, making processes smoother and more effective for both learners and trainers. This position is ideal for someone with a keen interest in technology, education, and process improvement.
What the role entails
As an intern, your responsibilities will be varied and will provide comprehensive exposure to the eLearning lifecycle. You will be involved in the entire process of learning material development, from initial deliverables through to sign-offs and adherence to timelines. This includes designing and producing online learning content using appropriate software. Furthermore, you’ll be responsible for creating engaging supporting materials such as mailers and infographics for internal communications.
A significant part of the role involves providing technical support. You will handle incoming calls, emails, and queries from stakeholders and trainers regarding the LMS. This includes offering first-line support, logging and managing cases on the relevant platform, and tracking user issues. You will also be tasked with generating reports on LMS usage and statistics, ensuring content is tested for quality assurance, and maintaining the LMS procedure documentation.
Beyond technical administration, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the social aspects of the LMS and explore emerging trends in mobile learning, aiming to enhance its adoption. Investigating the LMS to suggest improvements that reduce manual tasks will be a key project. You will also play a crucial role in upskilling trainers by ensuring their knowledge of the LMS is current. This will involve uploading and updating course materials and assessments, creating and managing classes, and monitoring attendance. Additionally, you'll assist with survey creation, manual result uploads, and per-question trend analysis. Support during virtual classroom sessions will also be part of your duties.
What you’ll need to succeed
To qualify for this INSETA-supported internship programme, candidates must meet specific criteria: be a South African citizen, not have previously participated in an INSETA internship or learnership, be between 18 and 35 years old, and have been unemployed for the last two months. A Grade 12 (Matric) qualification is essential, with a background in Multimedia or BA Graphic Design, or a similar qualification, being highly beneficial.
Exposure to disciplines such as instructional design, video animation and editing, audio and video production, or graphic design will give you an advantage. Furthermore, practical experience with coding languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript would be a significant asset, although not strictly compulsory.
Beyond technical and academic qualifications, OUTsurance is looking for individuals with strong computer literacy, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. A high level of attention to detail is crucial, as is a strong administrative orientation coupled with exceptional language and writing abilities. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team is essential. You should be creative, innovative, and open to receiving criticism and feedback. Strong researching, analytical, and problem-solving skills are a must. A genuine passion for systems and for creating efficiencies will set you apart, as will the ability to engage with and transfer knowledge effectively to peers and stakeholders at all levels.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and growth-oriented environment. OUTsurance is known for its vibrant culture, commitment to employee development, and recognition programmes. While specific remuneration is not stated, internships in this field typically provide a stipend to cover living expenses. Successful interns often find pathways into permanent roles within the company, particularly within the burgeoning fields of digital learning and IT support.
