Job Description

At Liberty, a prominent and forward-thinking financial services group with a significant presence across Africa and on the global stage, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and client-centric professional to join their Prestige Banking division in Cape Town. This role is designed for an individual who thrives on building and nurturing strong client relationships, actively contributing to the growth and success of a discerning clientele. You will be instrumental in delivering unparalleled service and tailored financial solutions to high-net-worth individuals, ensuring their banking needs are met with precision and expertise.

About the role

The Prestige Banking Relationship Banker will be entrusted with the responsibility of acquiring new clients within the Prestige segment, while also diligently servicing and retaining existing ones. A core aspect of this position involves a proactive approach to portfolio management, focusing on understanding each client's unique financial landscape through structured needs analyses. The ultimate goal is to deepen client engagement by promoting the uptake of a comprehensive suite of banking products, encompassing lending, transactional accounts, and cutting-edge digital banking solutions. Furthermore, a key function will be the identification of opportunities in wealth management, investments, and fiduciary services, necessitating close collaboration with specialist teams to ensure clients receive holistic financial guidance.

Key Responsibilities

This role demands a proactive and relationship-driven approach to account management. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • **Client Portfolio Management:** Actively managing and growing an assigned portfolio of Prestige clients through consistent, proactive engagement, insightful needs-based conversations, and the cultivation of enduring relationships.
  • **Deepening Relationships:** Enhancing client banking relationships by uncovering and offering suitable solutions across transactional services, lending products, digital platforms, and loyalty programmes.
  • **Referral and Collaboration:** Identifying clients’ needs in areas such as wealth creation, investment strategies, fiduciary services, and estate planning, and making timely referrals to the bank's expert Financial Planners, Investment Consultants, and specialised departments.
  • **Client Reviews:** Conducting structured, in-depth client reviews to gain a thorough understanding of their financial objectives, aspirations, and challenges, and recommending appropriate banking and financial solutions that align with these goals.
  • **Service Excellence:** Efficiently processing and resolving client service requests across various channels, including digital platforms, telephone, and in-branch interactions, ensuring prompt turnaround times and a seamless, positive client experience.
  • **Compliance and Governance:** Strictly adhering to all governance and compliance standards, including the timely completion of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks, Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, due diligence processes, arrears management, and other regulatory requirements.

What they're looking for

To excel in this role, candidates will possess a strong foundation in banking and a demonstrable passion for client service. Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Banking, Finance, or a closely related field, or an Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) that is recognised by the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act.
  • A valid driver's licence and the flexibility to travel to client locations as required.
  • A minimum of two years of overall banking experience, with one to two years of FAIS-recognised experience gained in a branch environment (physical, virtual, or voice).
  • Proven experience in relationship banking, successfully managing a portfolio of personal, prestige, or affluent clients.
  • Exposure to wealth management, investment consulting, or financial planning referral environments, demonstrating an understanding of these specialised areas.
  • A strong track record of growing client portfolios, driving product adoption and entrenchment (particularly in lending, transactional, and digital products), and effectively retaining clients.
  • Experience working across multi-channel banking environments to process client requests, manage credit applications, and resolve service-related issues.

In South Africa, roles like Prestige Banking Relationship Banker typically command a competitive salary depending on experience, the size and value of the client portfolio managed, and the specific employer. Standard Bank, as a major financial institution, would likely offer a structured career path with opportunities for advancement into more senior relationship management, wealth management, or leadership positions within their extensive network of branches and specialist divisions across the country.
