About the Role
As a Team Leader for Universal Banking Initiatives within a Local Market, your primary responsibility will be to guide and motivate a team of Universal Bankers. This leadership position is crucial for translating broader market objectives into tangible results on the ground. You will oversee several points of representation within the Overberg Region, encompassing towns like Hermanus, Gansbaai, Kleinmond, Caledon, Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Bredasdorp, and Swellendam. Your influence will extend to sales performance, client engagement, service quality, the execution of operational procedures, and effective risk management. A significant aspect of this role involves regular travel within the specified local market, enabling direct engagement with your team, client-facing initiatives, and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day activities will be multifaceted, requiring a blend of leadership, strategic execution, and operational oversight. You will be responsible for:
- **Team Leadership and Development:** Leading, coaching, and managing your team of Universal Bankers to ensure they meet their sales, service, client experience, operational, and risk management targets across their respective areas. This includes nurturing a high-performing, client-focused, and accountable team culture.
- **Initiative Implementation:** Effectively implementing and executing local market initiatives by collaborating closely with branch teams, local market leadership, and relevant business stakeholders to drive client growth and elevate service standards.
- **Financial Performance:** Actively contributing to the financial health of the business by identifying opportunities for increased customer value, promoting cross-selling and up-selling, recommending suitable banking solutions, and encouraging the adoption of digital and non-branch channels.
- **Operational and Risk Management:** Overseeing daily operational activities, ensuring compliance with all laid-down procedures, and managing risk control measures. This includes ensuring consistent application of all client interaction protocols and account processing standards.
- **Capability Building:** Partnering with Human Resources functions to manage team capabilities, performance, staffing, and development, ensuring the team possesses the necessary skills and motivation to excel.

**Essential Requirements:**
- Relevant frontline banking experience, typically three to four years, with significant exposure to sales, client engagement, and branch operations.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, coaching, or coordinating a frontline banking team to achieve sales, service, operational, and compliance goals.
- A solid grasp of banking processes, client needs analysis, product application procedures, account submissions, risk controls, and regulatory requirements.
- The ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, resolve client issues, analyse performance data, and implement practical improvements within a branch or local market setting.
- A willingness and demonstrated ability to travel frequently within the local market to support client initiatives, team engagement, and business execution.
- A valid driver’s licence is a prerequisite for this role.
- An NQF Level 6 qualification aligned with FAIS requirements (e.g., Commerce, Banking, Finance, Financial Planning, Business Management, or a related field).
- Must meet FAIS Fit and Proper requirements, including currently holding FAIS Representative status.

Requirements

- A valid driver’s licence is required.
Experience Required:
- 3 to 4 years’ relevant frontline banking experience, with strong exposure to sales, service, client engagement and branch operations.
- Experience leading, coaching or coordinating a frontline banking team to deliver against sales, service, operational and compliance objectives.
- Sound understanding of banking processes, client needs analysis, product application processes, account submissions, risk controls and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to engage stakeholders, resolve client matters, interpret performance data and implement practical improvements within a branch or Local Market environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the Local Market to support client initiatives, team engagement and business execution.
