Job Description
Netcare, through its specialist mental health division Akeso, is inviting applications for an Enrolled Nurse position at their Gqeberha facility. This role is a vital link in the multidisciplinary care team, focusing on the delivery of high-quality psychiatric and general medical care. As a member of a leading private healthcare organisation, the successful candidate will work in an environment defined by the values of care, truth, participation, compassion, and dignity.
About the role
In this position, you will operate under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or the Nursing Unit Manager, providing both direct and indirect nursing care. You will serve as a key figure in managing the ward’s nursing team, ensuring that patients receive holistic support in a safe and secure environment.
The role is dynamic and requires a nurse who is comfortable acting as either a shift leader or as a core support member within the team. You will be expected to act as a role model, demonstrating high clinical standards while maintaining the dignity and privacy of those in your care. Cooperation is essential, as you will interact regularly with the broader multidisciplinary team, administrative staff, and hospital management.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities will revolve around the implementation of care programmes initiated by the RN. You will be expected to maintain meticulous clinical documentation and ensure that all patient-related tasks are executed according to company policy. Key duties include:
- **Clinical Oversight:** Managing the assessment and care of patients, including the development and evaluation of nursing programmes.
- **Team Leadership:** Allocating tasks to Enrolled Nurse Auxiliaries (ENAs) and Health Care Workers, and ensuring that thorough shift handovers occur consistently.
- **Operational Governance:** Maintaining a sterile and hazard-free environment, managing medical waste in line with company protocols, and ensuring that all ward equipment is correctly cleaned, stored, and functional.
- **Resource Management:** Ensuring medical consumables and medication are controlled and accounted for, including verifying that patients are billed correctly for ward stock.
- **Continuous Improvement:** Participating in quality improvement programmes, attending relevant committee meetings (such as infection control or health and safety), and contributing to problem-solving initiatives.
What they're looking for
Successful applicants should be registered with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse. You must possess a strong understanding of your scope of practice and be able to apply it confidently within a mental health setting. Netcare places a high premium on professional conduct, meaning you must be able to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards at all times, even under pressure. You should have a proactive approach to planning, the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, and the confidence to delegate duties effectively to subordinates based on their individual competencies.
