Job Description

Liberty is seeking a seasoned professional to spearhead internal communications for its Personal and Private Banking division in South Africa. This pivotal role involves crafting and implementing a dynamic strategy to ensure employees are consistently informed, engaged, and aligned with the organisation's vision. You'll be instrumental in translating the business's strategic objectives into compelling narratives and impactful campaigns that resonate across various departments and geographies.

About the Role

This position is central to fostering a cohesive and motivated workforce within Personal and Private Banking. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated business portfolio, acting as a strategic partner to conceptualise, design, and execute internal marketing and communication initiatives. The primary aim is to bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and the daily experiences of employees, driving understanding, commitment, and ultimately, performance. Success in this role means creating a clear and consistent flow of information that supports the achievement of key business priorities and outcomes, ensuring everyone is working towards a shared goal.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of communication and marketing activities tailored for an internal audience. You will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive internal communication strategies aligned with the Personal and Private Banking business unit's objectives.
  • Craft clear, concise, and engaging messaging that effectively communicates business strategy, change initiatives, and important organisational updates to employees.
  • Manage and oversee the execution of internal marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including digital platforms, leadership communications, and broader engagement initiatives.
  • Leverage your expertise to translate complex business concepts into accessible and meaningful narratives for diverse employee groups.
  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure communication efforts are integrated and support overarching business goals.
  • Measure the effectiveness of communication programmes and campaigns, using insights to refine strategies and improve engagement.
  • Manage relationships with external agencies and suppliers as needed for content creation and campaign execution.
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of owned and paid media channels to reach target employee audiences.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the financial services industry to inform communication strategies and content.

What They're Looking For

Liberty is searching for an individual with a strong foundation in communication and marketing, coupled with significant experience in a corporate environment. A relevant tertiary qualification, such as a degree in Communication, Public Relations, or Marketing, is essential. You should possess a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in internal communications, brand management, or marketing roles, ideally within a complex organisational structure.

Key requirements for this position include:

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver impactful internal communication strategies that drive employee alignment and engagement.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a talent for tailoring messages for different audiences and communication platforms.
  • Extensive experience in managing and optimising employee engagement platforms and various communication channels.
  • Demonstrated expertise in campaign planning, execution, and measurement.
  • A strong understanding of brand principles and product activations.
  • Proficiency in analysing and interpreting information to inform communication strategies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and supplier relationship skills.
  • The capacity to manage budgets and project timelines effectively.
  • A strategic approach to developing an effective media mix, including digital, earned, and owned channels.
  • Strong behavioural competencies such as composure, team working, taking action, and positive thinking are highly valued.

In South Africa, a role like this typically commands a competitive salary reflecting the level of responsibility and experience required, often within the mid-to-senior management band. Major financial institutions like Liberty are frequent employers of internal communication professionals, offering clear career progression paths into broader strategic communication or marketing leadership roles.
