This role calls for a seasoned architect to steer the adoption and evolution of Huawei Cloud technologies within a major financial services organisation in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the future of cloud capabilities, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives. This is a pivotal position for someone who thrives on defining architectural standards, guiding complex technology initiatives, and fostering a culture of innovation within a large, established enterprise.
Strategic Cloud Architecture and Governance
The core of this position involves providing architectural leadership for Huawei Cloud and associated Huawei technologies across the entire organisation. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the standards, roadmaps, and blueprints that underpin the Huawei Cloud platform. This includes establishing robust governance frameworks and ensuring that the platform capabilities evolve to meet the demands of a dynamic business environment. A key deliverable will be the ownership and continuous improvement of the Huawei Cloud Landing Zone, making sure it adheres to enterprise architecture principles, stringent security requirements, regulatory obligations, and overarching business goals. Your expertise will be crucial in establishing foundational cloud elements, defining operating models, and implementing effective platform guardrails and cloud-native architecture practices.
As a trusted advisor, you will champion architectural best practices and provide governance across significant technology projects. This includes driving the advancement of Huawei Cloud services and related technologies, and setting standards that facilitate widespread, consistent cloud adoption. Collaboration will be essential, working closely with various teams including Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, Engineering, Data, Risk, and Technology. The aim is to ensure that Huawei Cloud services are implemented securely, with strong governance, and in a sustainable manner that promotes innovation, operational efficiency, and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
The role demands a deep understanding of enterprise architecture principles and extensive experience in cloud platforms, with a particular focus on Huawei Cloud. While direct Huawei Cloud experience is preferred, candidates with strong architectural backgrounds in AWS or Azure will be considered, provided they can demonstrate transferable skills in cloud platform design, governance, landing zone setup, and multi-cloud architecture.
**Your responsibilities will likely include:**
- Defining and governing cloud architecture standards, target-state roadmaps, and reference architectures.
- Developing and maintaining the Huawei Cloud Landing Zone, ensuring alignment with enterprise and security requirements.
- Leading the establishment of cloud foundations, operating models, and platform guardrails.
- Providing architectural leadership and governance for strategic technology initiatives.
- Driving the evolution of Huawei Cloud capabilities and related Huawei technologies.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, well-governed, and sustainable cloud implementations.
- Implementing and promoting cloud-native architecture practices and DevSecOps principles.
**To be successful in this role, you will need:**
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, or Cloud Architecture within large-scale environments.
- Extensive experience designing and governing enterprise-wide cloud transformation programmes.
- A proven track record within the banking or financial services sector, or other highly regulated industries.
- A strong understanding of architecture frameworks like TOGAF.
- Significant experience defining and governing enterprise cloud platforms, landing zones, standards, and operating models.
- Over 5 years of hands-on experience with Huawei Cloud services (ECS, VPC, CCE, OBS, RDS, DLI, Security, IAM) or equivalent strong AWS/Azure experience.
- Experience establishing Huawei Cloud landing zones, governance frameworks, and operational models.
- Solid knowledge of cloud migration methodologies and modernisation approaches.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), and containerisation technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Strong leadership experience, with the ability to influence and guide technical teams.
- Relevant certifications such as HCIE/HCIP/HCIA Cloud Computing, TOGAF, or CCSP would be advantageous.
