Job Description

OUTsurance is seeking a detail-oriented professional to join their Centurion-based team as a Buildings Desktop Assessor. This role is central to the insurer’s operations, ensuring that property-related insurance claims are managed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with policy terms. If you have a background in the built environment and a flair for balancing technical construction knowledge with high-level administrative tasks, this position offers an opportunity to work within a fast-paced, customer-centric organisation.

About the role

As a desktop assessor, you will act as the crucial link between policyholders, service providers, and internal stakeholders. You won't just be processing paperwork; you will be analysing technical scopes of work, evaluating costings against agreed industry rates, and ensuring that the repairs covered under insurance—such as burst geysers, structural damage from storms, or general home maintenance—are handled fairly and cost-effectively.

This is a fast-paced position where your ability to manage data and make firm, informed decisions is paramount. You will be expected to work independently, often navigating complex queries from contractors or engineers, while maintaining a focus on delivering the "awesome service" that the company is known for.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily responsibilities will revolve around the end-to-end management of property insurance claims. You will be required to:

  • **Validate claims:** Review incoming claims against specific insurance policies to ensure coverage and compliance.
  • **Quantify repairs:** Draft comprehensive scopes of work or rigorously evaluate quotes submitted by third-party builders and service providers to ensure costs align with established agreements.
  • **Administrative excellence:** Maintain meticulous records, draft clear reports, and handle telephonic and written queries with professionalism.
  • **Stakeholder management:** Negotiate with service providers and resolve disputes or complaints from clients, ensuring that outcomes remain fair and efficient.
  • **Quality control:** Ensure all work meets the company's performance standards, operating with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

What they're looking for

To be successful in this role, you need a solid foundation in the construction or insurance industry. You should be someone who feels comfortable working with numbers and is not easily flustered by tight deadlines.

  • **Essential qualifications:** A matric certificate and a valid driver's licence.
  • **Industry knowledge:** Proven experience in the building industry or a relevant tertiary qualification (NQF 6 or higher) in a construction-related field.
  • **Technical skills:** High computer literacy, with a specific focus on MS Word and MS Excel for reporting and data management.
  • **Soft skills:** Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills are essential. You must be self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently in an unstructured environment.
  • **Alignment:** A genuine resonance with values of honesty, dynamism, and human-centric service.

Experience in actual building assessment or handling insurance claims within the building sector is considered a significant advantage.

*Note: As this role involves "bench" placement, successful applicants may be placed in a talent pool for up to three months. This does not constitute an immediate offer of employment. Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups in line with the company’s Employment Equity goals.*
