This role is pivotal in ensuring the thorough and accurate investigation of a wide array of claims, serving both internal departments and external clients. The successful candidate will play a critical role in upholding the organisation's commitment to exceptional service and integrity. It's a challenging yet rewarding position for an individual adept at navigating complex situations and dedicated to uncovering factual information to support claims processes.
The nature of the work requires a self-driven individual who can operate autonomously, often in high-pressure scenarios. While based in Gauteng, the role necessitates a willingness to travel nationally, as the expertise of the investigator will be leveraged across various regions to address diverse claim requirements. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong investigative background, particularly within the insurance sector, to contribute significantly to a leading financial services provider.
Key Responsibilities
As an On-the-Road Investigator, your primary responsibilities will involve:
- Conducting comprehensive investigations into a variety of insurance claims.
- Engaging effectively with internal teams and external clients throughout the investigation process.
- Maintaining meticulous administrative records related to all ongoing investigations.
- Travelling extensively across South Africa to conduct on-site investigations as required.
What They're Looking For

Essential qualifications and experience include:
- A National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- Demonstrable investigative experience, with a preference for a background in insurance claim investigations.
- A valid South African driver's licence.
- A valid passport, reflecting the national travel requirements of the role.
Key competencies and personal attributes sought are:
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear and concise reporting and interaction.
- Proficiency in computer literacy.
- Proven investigative acumen and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- High levels of self-discipline and motivation for independent work.
- Adaptability and a customer-centric approach.
- Strong organisational skills with an acute attention to detail.
- The capacity to take ownership and responsibility for tasks.
- Tenacity and resilience under pressure, with excellent stress tolerance.
- A results and deadline-oriented mindset.
An assessing or investigation-related tertiary qualification would be highly advantageous, as would previous experience in claims assessing or an investigator role within the insurance industry that involved face-to-face client interaction. OUTsurance values individuals who embody their core principles of awesome service, passion, honesty, humanity, and dynamism.
In South Africa, an On-the-Road Investigator role, particularly within the insurance sector, typically requires a blend of investigative skills and client-facing professionalism. This type of position is common in large insurance organisations. The compensation can vary widely based on experience and the complexity of cases handled, often including a structured salary with potential for performance-related incentives or travel allowances due to the mobile nature of the job. Growth opportunities usually involve specialisation in particular types of claims, moving into supervisory roles, or transitioning into forensic investigation within the broader financial services industry.
