Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading financial institution and build a thriving career as a Financial Adviser. The role is designed for individuals with a proven history of success in the financial services industry who are motivated by performance-based remuneration. If you are a results-oriented professional with a passion for helping clients achieve their financial goals, this commission-driven position offers significant earning potential and the autonomy to manage your practice effectively.

About the Role

The core of this position focuses on delivering comprehensive financial planning and advisory services. You will be responsible for managing and nurturing an existing portfolio of clients, if applicable, while also actively pursuing new business opportunities. The objective is to provide clients with bespoke solutions across various financial domains, including investments, risk management, and insurance, thereby fostering long-term relationships built on trust and exceptional service. Maintaining adherence to all Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act regulations and industry standards is paramount.

This role is ideal for an ambitious individual who thrives in a dynamic, results-driven setting. It requires a proactive approach to business development, a keen understanding of financial markets, and the ability to translate client needs into tailored financial strategies. The position offers a significant degree of autonomy, allowing you to structure your workday and client interactions to maximise productivity and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

As an experienced Financial Adviser, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert, holistic financial planning and advisory services to clients, understanding their unique circumstances and long-term objectives.
  • Managing and growing an assigned client portfolio, ensuring client retention and satisfaction through consistent engagement and service excellence.
  • Actively sourcing and converting new business opportunities through effective prospecting and networking strategies.
  • Developing and presenting tailored recommendations for investment, risk, and insurance solutions that align with client needs and market opportunities.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with clients by delivering exceptional ongoing service and support.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant legislation, including the FAIS Act and its regulatory requirements.
  • Staying abreast of the latest market trends, economic developments, and financial product innovations to provide informed advice.

What They're Looking For

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet specific criteria:

  • **FAIS Compliance:** Full FAIS Fit & Proper compliance is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • **RE5 Certification:** Possession of RE5 (Regulatory Examination 5) certification is essential.
  • **Experience:** A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a Financial Adviser role or a closely related advisory position is required.
  • **Sales Acumen:** A demonstrable track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets is crucial.
  • **Client Base:** While not mandatory, an established client base will be considered advantageous.
  • **Business Development Skills:** Proven capability in business development, networking, and lead generation is highly valued.
  • **Communication Skills:** Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and closing skills are necessary for client engagement and deal finalisation.
  • **Reliable Transport:** Own reliable transport is required to facilitate client meetings and business activities.
  • **Educational Background:** A Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies is required.

The ideal candidate is a driven, entrepreneurial professional with a genuine passion for client success. You should possess a strong sales mindset, the ability to thrive in a performance-based environment, and a desire for a platform that rewards your expertise, effort, and ambition.

In South Africa, commission-based financial advisory roles can offer substantial earning potential, often exceeding the limitations of fixed salaries, particularly for advisers with established client bases and strong sales performance. Absa, as a major banking group, would typically have robust support structures and a wide array of financial products available to its advisers. Career progression often involves building a significant personal client book, potentially expanding into team leadership or specialised advisory areas within the banking sector. The landscape for financial advisers is regulated, and ongoing professional development is a key aspect of maintaining compliance and client trust.
