Head: PPB Credit Strategy & Portfolio

The Head of Credit Strategy & Portfolio plays a key role in supporting the Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Chief Credit Officer (CCO) in the second line of defence. The role is responsible for independent oversight, check and challenge across all PPB credit portfolios to ensure risks are appropriately identified, monitored and managed within approved appetite. It focuses on risk appetite, portfolio and capital management as well as forward-looking risk insights to support sustainable, risk-adjusted growth.

• Support the CCO in providing independent oversight of credit risk across PPB portfolios.
• Review and challenge bottom-up credit risk appetite from business units.
• Ensure portfolio strategies are aligned to approved risk appetite.
• Provide independent challenge to credit strategies.
• Evaluate and enhance the bank’s credit risk and capital models.
• Establish and own PPB Credit Standard.
• Monitor overall credit risk exposure across PPB portfolios.
• Oversee portfolio performance trends and key risk drivers.
• Support periodic Product and Credit Strategy Reviews.
• Ensure effective design and use of Early Warning Indicators (EWIs).
• Support portfolio optimisation through risk-return analysis.
• Ensure Group Credit Portfolio Management principles are embedded.
• Monitor appropriateness of risk weighted assets and capital metrics.
• Support optimisation of capital allocation.
• Provide insights into capital efficiency across portfolios.
• Establish requirements for tier 1 credit risk reporting.
• Help coordinate stress testing and scenario analysis.
• Support the CCO in maintaining a robust credit risk governance framework.
• Engage with Group Credit, Finance, and other stakeholders.
• Lead and develop the team.
• Provide ongoing training and mentorship to team members.

• Bachelor’s degree and/or post graduate qualification(s) in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 10 years’ retail banking experience.
• Strong understanding of retail banking products and credit risk models.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Proven experience leading high-performing teams.
• Advanced understanding of relevant regulations.
