If you have a strong financial background and a keen eye for detail, this opportunity within a leading African financial institution could be your next career move. Absa, with over a century of experience, is committed to empowering Africa's future and invites individuals to contribute to this exciting growth journey.

About the Role

The Specialist Capital Management will be instrumental in providing high-quality execution, analysis, and reporting related to regulatory capital. This includes supporting capital planning and forecasting activities, as well as contributing to the bank's Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP). A key aspect of this position involves ensuring the accuracy of data, performing thorough variance analysis, and consistently delivering capital management outputs on time. You will work closely with senior management, including Vice Presidents and Heads of Departments, to build and maintain sophisticated capital forecast models.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will span several critical areas of capital management:

  • **Capital Planning & Forecasting Support:**
  • Develop and maintain capital forecast models under the guidance of senior leadership.
  • Populate scenario templates and assist in conducting buffer analysis and sensitivity runs. This includes evaluating the impact of various factors such as dividend payouts, asset issuance, growth in risk-weighted assets (RWA), foreign exchange fluctuations, and impairments.
  • Generate forecast outputs presented from various perspectives, including solo entity, bank group, and group-wide views.
  • **ICAAP Inputs & Evidence Packs:**
  • Coordinate and compile the quantitative schedules required for ICAAP.
  • Prepare and organise evidence folders, ensuring they contain all necessary governance evidence and supporting documentation for capital adequacy and projections.
  • Maintain strict version control for ICAAP schedules, ensuring alignment with the most recent regulatory reporting figures.
  • **Automation & Process Improvement:**
  • Contribute to automation initiatives, leveraging tools like Excel, VBA, Power Query, and Power BI where applicable. This involves defining requirements with stakeholders, documenting current and future process flows, and executing user acceptance testing (UAT) while reconciling outputs.
  • Enhance existing controls through the development of checklists, reconciliation processes, exception logs, and robust sign-off packs.
  • **RDARR / BCBS 239 Controls & Data Governance:**
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data lineage, reconciliations, and control evidence specifically for capital reporting streams.
  • Support internal and external audit requests, as well as regulatory information demands, by providing well-organised evidence packs and traceable working papers.

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation in financial sciences and substantial relevant experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional analytical prowess and meticulous attention to detail.

**Qualifications and Experience:**

  • A relevant professional designation such as CA(SA), CFA, FRM, or PRM, or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 7 or higher is required.
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years of practical experience in areas such as capital management, regulatory reporting, treasury operations, risk analytics, or bank finance.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or an Advanced Diploma in Financial Sciences is a prerequisite.

**Skills and Competencies:**

  • Excellent numeracy skills, a strong capacity for analytical rigour, and an unwavering commitment to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential. Experience with VBA, Power Query, or Power Pivot would be considered a significant advantage.
  • The ability to articulate complex financial drivers and insights clearly and concisely in written commentary.
