About the Role

FNB is searching for a dynamic and experienced Wealth Manager to join its Private Wealth and Advisory Team in Johannesburg. This position is central to the organisation's commitment to providing comprehensive financial services to high-income clients. The successful candidate will act as a primary financial advisor, offering expert guidance on savings, investments, and estate planning, with a particular focus on investment strategies. Key Responsibilities

The core function of this role involves expertly managing and growing client wealth through tailored financial solutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • **Meeting Sales Targets:** Proactively identify and pursue new investment and risk solution opportunities within the existing client base to consistently achieve sales targets.
  • **Client Engagement & Retention:** Educate clients on FNB's diverse product and service offerings, ensuring their satisfaction and retention while expanding the organisation's client base.
  • **Financial Planning:** Conduct thorough analyses of clients' financial situations and utilise appropriate tools to formulate comprehensive financial plans and proposals.
  • **Solution Development:** Craft bespoke proposals spanning cash management, risk assessment, investment planning, and estate planning to help clients achieve their financial objectives.
  • **Service Level Adherence:** Provide regular, high-quality client reports in line with agreed service level agreements.
  • **Quality Assurance:** Maintain the highest standard of advice, ensuring consistency and alignment with FNB's investment philosophy and approved product matrix.
  • **Market Intelligence:** Stay abreast of industry trends by networking, benchmarking, and participating in relevant forums to maintain a competitive advantage.
  • **Internal Collaboration:** Cultivate strong internal networks and alliances to enhance support and collaboration across the FirstRand Group.

What They're Looking For

FNB is seeking a dedicated professional with a robust background in wealth management, possessing the following qualifications and experience:

  • **Educational Foundation:** A relevant, Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) approved degree (NQF Level 7) in Finance, Investment, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • **Professional Certification:** The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is essential.
  • **Industry Experience:** A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience as a Wealth Manager, specifically advising high-income or high-net-worth clients.
  • **Bespoke Solutions:** Proven track record in developing custom-built wealth portfolio solutions at a managerial level.
  • **Sales Acumen:** demonstrated success in achieving sales and production targets within an advisory context.
  • **Regulatory Compliance:**
  • **Required:** RE5 certification and CAT 1 FAIS licenses, with sign-off for supervision, covering a broad range of products including long-term insurance, retail pension benefits, shares, money market instruments, collective investment schemes, and forex investments.
  • **Advantageous:** CAT 2 FAIS licenses, providing exposure to discretionary or managed investment mandates across various asset classes.

Beyond qualifications, the ideal candidate will be curious and courageous, committed to continuous learning, and obsessed with mastery, consistently striving for excellence in their craft.

In South Africa, wealth management roles are highly sought after and typically command competitive remuneration structures that often include performance-linked bonuses. Such positions are common within major financial institutions, private banks, and independent financial advisory firms. Career progression can lead to senior advisory roles, portfolio management, or even leadership positions within wealth management divisions.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • A relevant FSCA Approved degree in Finance, Investment, Economics, or a related field

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation

  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Wealth Manager advising high‑income / high‑net‑worth clients

  • Solid experience in providing custom built solutions to our client’s wealth portfolios at a managerial level is

  • A proven record of achieving sales and production targets in an advisory environment

  • At this level, the Wealth Manager will have CAT 1 licenses, signed off for supervision. CAT 2 licenses would be an advantage

FAIS Licensing (Preferred):

Category 1 (Required):

  • Includes exposure across long‑term insurance, retail pension benefits, shares, money market instruments, bonds, collective investment schemes, forex investments, deposits, structured deposits, and hedge fund participatory interests.

Category 2 (Advantageous):

  • Exposure to discretionary or managed investment mandates across shares, CIS, bonds, forex, deposits, structured products, and hedge funds.
