About the Role
As an Android Software Engineer within the Takealot Group, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for bringing the company's vision for its mobile storefront to life. Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will be multifaceted, focusing on delivering a high-quality, user-friendly mobile application. Key tasks will include:
- **Feature Development:** Designing, coding, and implementing new features that enhance the functionality and appeal of the takealot.com Android application. This involves translating business requirements into robust and scalable technical solutions.
- **Bug Resolution:** Proactively identifying, diagnosing, and resolving bugs, crashes, and other technical issues that may impact the user experience. This requires a keen eye for detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- **Innovation and Ideation:** Participating in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas and innovative concepts that can further differentiate the takealot.com platform in a competitive market.
- **Collaboration and Quality Assurance:** Working closely with fellow engineers, designers, and product managers throughout the development process. This includes participating in code reviews to ensure code quality and contributing to estimation efforts for new projects.

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation in software engineering principles and a proven track record in native Android development. The ideal candidate will have:
- **Educational Background:** A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field such as Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of 6 years of equivalent experience in software development will be considered.
- **Professional Experience:** A minimum of 3 years of professional mobile development experience, with at least 2 of those years specifically focused on native Android development.
- **Technical Proficiency:**
- Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and programming best practices.
- Deep knowledge of the Android application and activity lifecycles.
- Expertise in building modern, responsive user interfaces using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and core Android architecture components.
- Familiarity with various Android-specific asynchronous processing techniques.
- Experience in strategies for handling platform fragmentation and diverse screen sizes.
- An appreciation for Android user experience design patterns and principles.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in a software/technology environment
- If no Bachelor’s or Advanced Diploma, equivalent experience of a minimum of 6 years in Software Development
- 3+ years professional mobile development experience with at least 2 years in native Android
- Strong Computer Science and programming fundamentals
- Full understanding of the Android application and activity lifecycles
- Proficient in building modern, responsive Android interfaces using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and core Android architecture components
- Appreciation of Android-specific asynchronous processing techniques
