This role is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of the technology that underpins a massive online retail platform, serving millions of customers. If you thrive in a dynamic, high-volume environment and are eager to contribute to a rapidly expanding organisation, this opportunity offers significant scope for professional development and career progression within the Takealot Group, which also encompasses Mr D and TFS.
About the role
The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive on-site IT support within the bustling environment of the Cape Town Distribution Centre. You will be the go-to person for a wide range of technical issues, ensuring that staff can operate efficiently and without interruption. This role requires a hands-on approach, dealing directly with hardware and software to resolve problems quickly and effectively. Beyond day-to-day support, you'll also collaborate with system engineers, acting as their on-site technical liaison, and be instrumental in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of IT support tasks, designed to keep the distribution centre running at peak performance. This includes:
- **Ticket Resolution:** Efficiently addressing and resolving IT support tickets logged via help desk software, prioritising and managing your workload effectively.
- **Hardware Management:** Troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing essential IT equipment such as computers, monitors, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
- **System Assistance:** Providing essential "smart hands" support for system engineers, assisting with installations, configurations, and maintenance tasks.
- **Software Deployment:** Installing, configuring, and managing various PC software applications, ensuring they are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
- **Equipment Maintenance:** Conducting regular maintenance, cleaning, and testing of IT equipment and peripherals to prevent future issues.
- **Asset Management:** Undertaking asset tagging and management to maintain an accurate inventory of IT assets.
- **User Support:** Performing essential user account management tasks, including password resets in Active Directory and Google Workspace.
- **Troubleshooting:** Delivering comprehensive troubleshooting and support for all IT equipment and software used within the distribution centre.
- **System Updates:** Executing OS re-imaging and software installations as required to maintain system standards.
- **Documentation:** Creating and maintaining IT procedure documentation for internal reference and training purposes.
- **Vendor Liaison:** Managing relationships with external vendors for equipment support, repairs, and installations.
- **On-Call Availability:** Being prepared to participate in standby duties as part of the job requirements when necessary.
What they're looking for
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and a proven track record in IT support. While a formal qualification is advantageous, extensive practical experience will also be considered. Specifically, employers will be looking for:
- A Higher Certificate or Advanced National (Vocational) Certificate in IT/Computing or a related field, coupled with a minimum of three years of dedicated IT support experience.
- Alternatively, candidates with at least six years of relevant IT support experience, without the formal qualification, will be considered.
