Job Description

At FNB, we are on the lookout for a dedicated Trust Administrator to join our Global Fiduciary team in Johannesburg. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an organisation that values adaptability and innovation, fostering an environment where curious minds can thrive and drive meaningful change. If you are someone who enjoys working with diverse professionals in a dynamic setting and is passionate about delivering exceptional service, this role could be an excellent fit for your career aspirations.

The Role and Your Responsibilities

As a Trust Administrator at FNB, your primary responsibility will be to provide specialist advice and execute tasks across the full spectrum of trust and TAMS administration, with a particular focus on offshore jurisdictions. You will be instrumental in managing the day-to-day administration of trusts on behalf of trustees, ensuring that all activities align with legal and regulatory requirements. This involves cultivating and nurturing professional relationships with offshore trustees, acting as a key point of contact and delivering service that goes above and beyond client expectations.

Your duties will encompass a range of essential administrative functions, including:

  • Providing comprehensive administration, compliance review, and operational support to trustees, thereby enabling them to effectively manage their trusts in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation.
  • Preparing crucial trust-related documents, such as trustee resolutions and minutes, as directed by the trustees.
  • Coordinating trust distributions, loan repayments, fee settlements, and other financial transactions in accordance with trustee instructions.
  • Assisting in the preparation and collation of documentation required for the establishment, ongoing management, and review of trust bank and investment accounts.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant offshore trust legislation, regulatory mandates, and fiduciary obligations.
  • Supporting client due diligence processes and ongoing monitoring in compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards.
  • Monitoring and tracking statutory filing deadlines and reporting obligations within the designated foreign jurisdictions.
  • Liaising effectively with internal compliance teams, external fiduciary service providers, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Gathering necessary information and documentation for regulatory, legislative, and internal audits.
  • Preparing correspondence for review by trustees.
  • Supporting trustees in maintaining proper governance, robust record-keeping, and overall audit readiness.
  • Identifying and promptly escalating any administrative, compliance, or operational risks to the attention of the trustees.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to internal policies, procedures, and service level agreements.

What You Bring to the Team

To excel in this role, FNB is seeking an individual with a solid foundation in trust administration. A minimum of two years of direct experience in trust administration is required. While not essential, a qualification in a Fiduciary industry-related field or a legal background would be considered advantageous, providing a deeper understanding of the complexities involved.

Beyond formal qualifications and experience, FNB values certain personal attributes and skills that are crucial for success within their adaptable and collaborative environment. They are looking for someone who:

  • Possesses demonstrable experience as a trust administrator.
  • Exhibits exceptional organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Is committed to providing outstanding client service.
  • Is adaptable and possesses a curious mindset, willing to learn and evolve.
  • Can adeptly analyse complex datasets and information.
  • Thrives in a collaborative team setting.
  • Has foundational knowledge of trust administration and compliance legislation relevant to offshore jurisdictions.

This role offers a challenging and dynamic working environment, providing you with the opportunity to network, collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, and gain valuable experience in offshore trust administration. All appointments will be made in line with the FirstRand Group’s Employment Equity plan, and the bank actively supports the recruitment and advancement of individuals with disabilities.

In South Africa, the role of a Trust Administrator can vary in remuneration based on experience and the complexity of the trusts managed. Typically, this position is found within financial institutions, law firms specialising in trusts, and dedicated fiduciary services companies. For an experienced Trust Administrator, progression could lead to roles such as Senior Trust Administrator, Trust Manager, or even specialise further in areas like estate planning or fiduciary compliance.
