Job Description

About the Opportunity

Liberty, a prominent financial services organisation, is seeking a dynamic Learning Designer to join their People & Culture (P&C) team in Johannesburg. This role is instrumental in shaping a positive and productive workforce experience by developing innovative learning solutions that directly address critical business needs. You will be a key partner to various stakeholders, leveraging technology to design and build integrated learning experiences that are not only effective but also efficient, agile, and commercially sound.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen understanding of future workforce requirements and evolving practices within the Centre of Excellence (CoE). This involves implementing comprehensive, end-to-end learning solutions, prioritising initiatives, and ensuring their alignment with overarching CoE objectives to meet the organisation's evolving demands.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be to design and develop cutting-edge learning solutions that empower employees and support business objectives. This involves:

  • Collaborating closely with business leaders and subject matter experts to identify learning gaps and translate them into actionable development programmes.
  • Applying instructional design principles and best practices to create engaging and effective learning materials across various modalities, including digital, blended, and instructor-led formats.
  • Optimising the use of learning technologies to enhance the delivery and impact of training initiatives, ensuring they are scalable and accessible.
  • Managing learning projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Staying abreast of emerging trends in learning and development, talent management, and the broader P&C landscape to continuously improve the organisation's learning offerings.
  • Contributing to the strategic direction of the P&C function by providing insights and recommendations based on learning needs analysis and solution effectiveness.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, you will need a strong foundation in learning design and a proven track record within the People & Culture domain. Key requirements include:

  • A relevant first-degree qualification, ideally in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Between 5 to 7 years of demonstrable experience in learning design and development, with a strong portfolio showcasing contributions to P&C practices.
  • Proficiency in learning technology and solution delivery, with a solid understanding of design and development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and establish rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a commitment to checking details and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of learning solutions.
  • The capacity to adapt to change, embrace new ideas, and contribute positively to a team environment.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage tasks effectively and meet deadlines.
  • An analytical mindset, capable of examining information, providing insightful feedback, and making informed decisions.

In South Africa, roles like Learning Designer within large financial institutions typically command competitive salaries, reflecting the specialised skills and experience required. The P&C field offers significant career progression, with opportunities to move into more senior instructional design roles, learning management, or broader HR strategy positions. Liberty, as part of the Standard Bank Group, provides a stable and reputable environment for professional growth.
