Job Description

The Takealot Group, a prominent player in South Africa's e-commerce landscape, is seeking a diligent Finance Administrator to provide crucial support to their Finance Team. This is a contract position, specifically to cover maternity leave, and offers an opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, innovative business environment. The company prides itself on being a dynamic, hyper-growth organisation that values integrity, creativity, and a strong work ethic.

About the Role

As a Finance Administrator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the accounts receivable function. This position is ideal for an individual with a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of financial administration principles. You will be instrumental in managing client accounts, processing transactions accurately, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organisation. The role requires someone who can adapt to a challenging and rewarding environment, where building something significant is a key objective.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a range of critical financial tasks. This includes the meticulous processing of customer invoices and credit notes on a daily basis, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded. You will also be responsible for uploading customer payments through internal systems, maintaining a clear and up-to-date record of financial inflows.

A significant part of your role will involve the creation and ongoing management of customer accounts, ensuring their accuracy and integrity within the company's systems. You will be tasked with managing these accounts and fostering relationships to ensure the timely collection of outstanding Accounts Receivable balances.

Furthermore, you will assist with queries that arise between different departments and entities within the group, including the processing of inter-company recharges for vouchers. Regular reconciliation of Accounts Receivable ageing will be a core duty, ensuring the accuracy of financial records and the correct allocation of received funds to the accounts receivable ledger. You will also be involved in reconciling voucher creation and invoicing at month-end. The position may also require you to undertake additional ad hoc duties as needed by the department, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support broader team objectives. Investigating customer queries and addressing their concerns promptly and effectively will also be a key aspect of the role.

What They're Looking For

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a finance administration capacity. Proficiency in financial software, with experience in systems like SAGE Evolution, would be considered a distinct advantage. A strong command of MS Office, particularly advanced Excel skills, is a prerequisite for this position.

Candidates are expected to hold a relevant Accounting Degree or Diploma. The Takealot Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups and individuals with disabilities. The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, high-growth environment, coupled with strong organisational and communication skills, will be highly valued.

In South Africa, roles like this, focusing on accounts receivable and general finance administration, are common within a variety of businesses, from large retail operations to smaller enterprises. While salary is dependent on experience and the specific company's remuneration structure, a market-related package is typically offered. Career progression often involves moving into more senior accounts roles, financial management, or specialising in areas such as credit control.

Requirements

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in Finance administration role.
