Job Description
Absa is seeking a seasoned Senior Specialist in Analytics Products to join its Human Capital (HC) analytics team in Johannesburg. This pivotal role is instrumental in shaping strategic workforce decisions and driving measurable business outcomes across the pan-African organisation. The incumbent will lead the delivery of advanced HC analytics, transforming complex data into actionable insights through sophisticated analysis and predictive modelling. A core responsibility will be ensuring the trustworthiness, governance, and consistent interpretation of HC data across all markets.
The position operates within a strategic management framework, requiring close collaboration with various stakeholders to define key metrics, foster data-driven practices, and elevate the organisation's digital HC analytics maturity. This is an opportunity to contribute significantly to Absa's growth journey and its vision of empowering Africa's tomorrow.
The Role of an Analytics Product Leader
As the Senior Specialist: Analytics Products, your responsibilities will span several critical areas. You will be accountable for the end-to-end product development, planning, and delivery of HC analytics solutions, ensuring they meet agreed-upon timelines and quality standards. This involves coordinating seamlessly with internal and external technology and data functions to ensure smooth product deployment.
A key aspect of the role involves influencing senior leadership through strategic recommendations and compelling insights derived from rigorous analysis. You will present findings in a decision-making format, clearly articulating implications, risks, assumptions, and expected outcomes. This includes shaping the prioritisation of HC analytics initiatives by advising on their value, feasibility, and dependencies within the broader HC operating model. Furthermore, you will be proactive in identifying and escalating systemic data quality issues that impact multiple analytical outputs, providing evidence of their business consequences.
Driving Data-Driven Decisions and Enhancing Capabilities
Stakeholder partnership and strategic decision support are central to this position. You will collaborate closely with HC leaders and cross-functional teams to understand their evolving data needs and provide expert analytical guidance aligned with business objectives. Integration with Group Centres of Excellence (CoEs) will be essential to ensure adherence to enterprise standards, leverage shared data assets, and maintain consistent HC measurement approaches across different business units and countries. Support will also be provided to HC Business Partnering teams with high-quality insights for workforce planning, organisational design, talent management, and change initiatives.
The role demands expertise in HC data acquisition, preparation, and ensuring its reliability. This includes leading the cleaning and preprocessing of complex data from multiple sources, ensuring high data quality. You will contribute to building repeatable and auditable data preparation routines to enhance consistency in HC reporting across markets. Partnering with HC systems and data specialists to define data and resolve recurring integrity issues will be crucial.
Advanced analytics, predictive insight, and modelling are core competencies required. You will conduct in-depth data analysis using advanced statistical methods, predictive analytics, and data modelling to uncover critical trends and actionable insights. Developing analytical hypotheses and testing approaches to quantify drivers of workforce outcomes, such as attrition, mobility, and performance, is a key expectation. Translating these analytical outputs into decision-ready recommendations that balance commercial impact, employee experience, risk, and operational feasibility is paramount.
Finally, you will be responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive executive reports and dashboards, simplifying complex data for clear communication. Building narrative frameworks that connect metrics to business outcomes, highlighting trade-offs, and recommending impactful actions will be vital. This includes maintaining strong governance over reporting logic and metric definitions to ensure a single source of truth. Continuous improvement will be driven through defining, monitoring, and refining KPIs, establishing indicator hierarchies, and tracking the adoption and effectiveness of analytics outputs. Identifying and leading initiatives for process optimisation, automation, and digital enablement will enhance efficiency and foster a data-driven culture. Ensuring data governance, privacy, and responsible use of HC data, including implementing validation and control practices, is also a critical aspect of the role.
In South Africa, senior analytics roles like this, particularly within large financial institutions, often carry competitive remuneration packages. Experience in advanced analytics, data modelling, and stakeholder management at a strategic level is highly valued. Career progression pathways can lead to leadership positions within data science, analytics management, or even broader strategy and transformation functions within the financial services sector.
