Job Description

Old Mutual, a prominent financial services organisation, is seeking a seasoned Senior Sales Consultant to join their team in Johannesburg. This role is pivotal in driving the sales of Credit Guarantee's products and requires a proactive individual with a proven ability to engage with high-level decision-makers within client organisations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying opportunities, understanding complex client needs, and delivering tailored solutions, all while adhering to stringent FAIS compliance regulations.

About the Role

This is a client-facing position focused on cultivating and expanding business relationships. You will be responsible for initiating contact with potential clients, whether through direct outreach or following up on incoming leads. A significant aspect of the role involves understanding the financial landscape of prospective clients, particularly their potential need for trade credit insurance. This requires a deep dive into their business operations and financial statements to accurately assess risk and identify appropriate solutions.

The Senior Sales Consultant will manage the entire sales cycle, from initial needs analysis and quote generation to the presentation of proposals and the onboarding of new clients. This includes providing comprehensive policy information and conducting online training to ensure clients can effectively utilise the offered products. Furthermore, meticulous record-keeping, including the completion of a formal record of advice, is a critical administrative component of the role, ensuring compliance and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this Senior Sales Consultant role are multifaceted and demand a blend of sales acumen, analytical skills, and a strong commitment to regulatory adherence. Key duties include:

  • **Prospecting and Client Engagement:** Setting up initial meetings and making contact with potential clients.
  • **Needs Analysis:** Identifying client needs for trade credit insurance by actively listening to their requirements.
  • **Information Gathering and Analysis:** Collecting all necessary information to prepare a quote, including analysing financial statements to assess risk.
  • **Solution Presentation:** Clearly presenting quotes and providing expert advice to prospects and introductory brokers.
  • **Onboarding and Training:** Issuing policies and providing online training to new clients upon acceptance of quotes.
  • **Compliance and Administration:** Completing all required administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate records of advice.
  • **Continuous Improvement:** Staying current with statutory and legislative knowledge to effectively resolve customer complaints, advise on risk mitigation, and enhance customer experience within governance frameworks.
  • **Policy Adherence:** Ensuring strict adherence to all organisational policies, practices, and procedures.
  • **Service Delivery Excellence:** Maintaining high standards of service delivery, quality, and desired outputs within functional processes, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • **Stakeholder Management:** Establishing and maintaining productive operational relationships with key stakeholders across various channels and administrative teams.
  • **Operational Efficiency:** Developing work routines aligned with operational plans to achieve service delivery goals and identifying opportunities for cost-effectiveness and efficiency improvements.
  • **Knowledge Sharing:** Sharing product, process, and systems knowledge with colleagues and actively participating in the development of new standards and procedures.
  • **Governance and Cost Control:** Proactively ensuring the efficient and compliant use of resources, including time, money, materials, and equipment, in line with corporate governance.

What They're Looking For

Old Mutual is searching for a candidate with a strong educational background and extensive experience in B2B sales, particularly within the financial services or insurance sectors. Essential qualifications and experience include:

  • **Education:** A post-matric qualification equivalent to NQF Level 7 in Commerce, with a major in Business Economics, Accounting, Finance, Credit Management, or a related field. A Grade 12 with an Insurance Level IV qualification is also a minimum requirement.
  • **FAIS Accreditation:** Must be FAIS accredited and fully understand regulatory "fit and proper" requirements.
  • **Financial Acumen:** A solid understanding of business financial statements.
  • **Sales Experience:** A minimum of five years of proven experience in B2B sales, with a demonstrable track record of successfully engaging with senior decision-makers (CFOs, Financial Managers).
  • **Analytical and Administrative Skills:** Strong skills in data analysis, record-keeping, and report review.
  • **Communication and Interpersonal Skills:** Excellent written and verbal communication, professional presentation abilities, and strong client management skills.
  • **Time Management:** Proficiency in managing high volumes of work and prioritising effectively.
  • **Technical Skills:** Good computer literacy and experience with sales software.
  • **Driving Licence:** A valid Code 8 driver's licence held for over 12 months.
  • **Industry Experience:** Experience in insurance, financial services, or a regulated industry is considered advantageous.
  • **Competencies:** The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong abilities in building networks, business insight, effective communication, customer focus, decision-making, accountability, managing complexity, and optimising work processes.
