Job Description

Sticker Mule, a company dedicated to revolutionising online commerce through a unique blend of software, manufacturing, and artificial intelligence, is seeking a talented AI Agent Engineer to join their remote team. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation, leveraging AI to drive significant improvements across various business functions. If you are passionate about building intelligent systems and have a knack for problem-solving, this role could be your next career move.

The Opportunity

As an AI Agent Engineer at Sticker Mule, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying AI agents that operate autonomously to achieve specific business objectives. This role involves not just the technical development of these agents but also a strategic understanding of how they can best serve the organisation. You'll be tasked with identifying opportunities where AI can make a tangible impact, from enhancing customer service to streamlining internal processes and accelerating product development.

Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of AI agent development and deployment. This includes:

  • Identifying key areas within the business where AI agents can provide significant value and subsequently designing and building these agents.
  • Collaborating closely with department leaders to thoroughly understand their unique needs and challenges, and how AI can provide solutions.
  • Facilitating the integration of AI agents with both external, third-party tools and internal proprietary systems, ensuring seamless operation.
  • Establishing robust metrics to evaluate the performance of deployed agents, with a mandate to remove any agents that do not demonstrate consistent value.
  • Proactively researching, testing, and adopting new AI models and tools as they become available, staying ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
  • Educating and advising colleagues across different departments on the capabilities of AI, empowering them to leverage these tools effectively within their own workflows.

What You'll Bring

Sticker Mule is looking for an individual with a proven track record in building and managing AI agents that can perform meaningful tasks independently. A strong understanding of leading AI models and frameworks is essential, including experience with platforms such as Grok, Claude, and OpenAI, as well as familiarity with open-source AI solutions.

In addition to your AI expertise, you will need a solid foundation in modern software development practices. Proficiency in programming languages and technologies like Go, TypeScript, and GraphQL will be crucial for building and integrating AI agents. Experience with database management, particularly with Postgres, and a working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are also highly desirable.

Furthermore, excellent communication skills are paramount. The ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely in written English will be vital for collaborating with diverse teams and documenting your work.

This role offers a unique chance to contribute to a forward-thinking company that is actively shaping the future of e-commerce. By joining Sticker Mule, you will be part of a dynamic environment where innovation is encouraged and your contributions will have a direct impact on the company's success.

In South Africa, roles involving AI development and engineering are increasingly in demand, particularly within larger tech firms, e-commerce platforms, and financial institutions. While salaries can vary significantly based on experience, the complexity of the projects, and the specific technologies used, AI engineers with the skills described can command competitive remuneration. The typical career path often involves progressing from individual contributor roles to team leadership or specialising in advanced AI research and development.
