About the Opportunity
A prominent financial institution in Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Vice President to join its Real Estate Equity Finance and Investments (EF&I) division within Investment Banking. This role is pivotal in driving and delivering sophisticated EF&I solutions, while also providing support on less complex transactions. The successful candidate will manage the entire lifecycle of client-centric solutions, aiming to elevate client experience and contribute significantly to the Real Estate Finance (REF) team's overall objectives and revenue targets. This is an opportunity to work within a leading Africa-focused financial services group that prides itself on fostering growth across the continent and delivering tangible value to its diverse clientele.
Key Responsibilities
The Vice President will be instrumental in the design, development, and execution of financial solutions tailored for real estate clients. This involves managing the end-to-end process, from initial concept and structuring through to implementation and ongoing client engagement. A key aspect of the role will be ensuring an exceptional client experience, aligning with the broader goals of the Real Estate Finance department. You will be responsible for leading and managing deal teams, effectively delegating tasks, and prioritising workload to ensure successful outcomes. This includes overseeing all quantitative analysis, scrutinising financial models, and validating valuations and transaction structures. Furthermore, the role requires close collaboration with specialist risk management teams to ensure adherence to all relevant business requirements, policies, and procedures. Portfolio monitoring to manage risk and exposure will also be a key responsibility.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and delivering complex Equity Finance & Investments solutions.
- Supporting the execution of less complex EF&I transactions.
- Managing the full deal lifecycle, from origination to completion.
- Ensuring exceptional client experience and contributing to revenue generation.
- Coordinating and leading deal teams, with a focus on task delegation and prioritisation.
- Partnering with specialist risk areas to align with business risk management frameworks.
- Conducting thorough financial analysis and report writing for stakeholders.
- Reviewing and providing oversight of quantitative analysis and financial modelling.
- Monitoring portfolios to manage risk and exposure effectively.
- Interpreting and applying relevant regulatory frameworks.
What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in finance and accounting, evidenced by a postgraduate degree in a relevant field. A minimum of five to seven years of experience in structured capital, equity finance, and investments is essential, preferably gained within advisory, private equity, or debt solutions. Crucially, the candidate must demonstrate a deep understanding of the markets in which the organisation operates, with specific experience in South Africa and/or other African regions. This will enable them to originate and implement effective client solutions.
A comprehensive knowledge of local and global lending products and solutions is required to develop and present innovative client offerings. Experience in managing and leading deal teams, with a proven ability to delegate and prioritise effectively, is also paramount. The role demands a proactive approach to risk management, including experience in partnering with risk specialists and understanding lending valuation processes. Familiarity with portfolio monitoring and managing risk exposure is necessary, as is the ability to interpret and work within relevant regulatory frameworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and presentation abilities, will be key to success in leading client engagements and presenting findings to stakeholders.
In South Africa, roles at this Vice President level within investment banking and real estate finance typically command competitive remuneration packages, often including performance-based bonuses.
