Job Description

This role at Liberty focuses on a crucial segment of the financial markets, specifically catering to Global Multinational Corporations (GMNCs) that have a significant presence or headquarters in the US, UK, and Europe. The core objective is to actively manage, grow, and execute opportunities within the Global Markets domain for these high-value clients. This involves not just transactional activities, but also building enduring relationships, offering strategic insights, and ultimately driving substantial revenue growth across a designated portfolio of clients.

About the Role

The Client Sales & Execution Lead will be instrumental in originating and executing a wide range of Global Markets transactions. This is a client-facing position that demands a proactive approach to understanding the intricate treasury and risk management needs of multinational corporations. Success in this role hinges on the ability to foster deep trust with key stakeholders within these organisations, including treasury, finance, and risk management teams. A critical aspect of the role involves collaborating closely with internal coverage teams to ensure a seamless and integrated client experience. Furthermore, the incumbent will act as a conduit for market intelligence, sharing insights on economic trends and innovative risk management strategies to add tangible value to clients.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Client Sales & Execution Lead are multifaceted and encompass several key areas:

  • **Client Engagement and Business Development:** Proactively initiate and nurture conversations with GMNC clients, identifying their specific treasury and risk management requirements. The aim is to generate new business opportunities and drive revenue across the spectrum of Global Markets products.
  • **Relationship Management:** Cultivate and strengthen professional connections with key contacts within client organisations. This includes working hand-in-hand with coverage teams to deliver a unified and exceptional client service.
  • **Market Insights and Advisory:** Provide clients with up-to-date market intelligence, analysis of economic trends, and strategic guidance on effective risk management techniques.
  • **Product Development and Solutioning:** Collaborate effectively with trading and structuring teams to devise and present bespoke financial solutions that address the unique challenges faced by multinational corporations.
  • **Pipeline and Revenue Management:** Meticulously manage an active pipeline of opportunities, ensuring that leads are converted into realised revenue streams.
  • **Deal Execution and Client Delivery:** Oversee and coordinate all aspects of transaction execution, from initial pricing and client onboarding to the successful completion of trades and post-trade activities.
  • **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Work synergistically with various internal departments, including product specialists, coverage teams, and support functions, to ensure optimal client outcomes.
  • **Risk, Conduct, and Compliance:** Uphold the highest standards of regulatory compliance and ethical conduct in all dealings.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this demanding role, candidates will need a strong foundation in finance and extensive experience within global markets. A relevant tertiary qualification is essential, ideally in fields such as Business Commerce, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or Risk Management. Postgraduate qualifications or professional market certifications would be considered advantageous.

In terms of experience, a minimum of five to seven years in Global Markets sales, client execution, treasury coverage, or a related financial markets role is required. Crucially, candidates must have demonstrable experience engaging directly with multinational corporate clients and their treasury departments. A solid understanding of financial instruments and solutions, including foreign exchange (FX), interest rates, liquidity management, hedging strategies, and structured products, is paramount. Furthermore, proven experience in managing sales pipelines, driving revenue growth, and effectively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders is a key requirement. Strong behavioural competencies such as persuasive communication, adaptability, decisiveness, and teamwork are also vital.

For individuals aspiring to this type of role in South Africa, it often forms part of a career path within large banking groups or financial institutions with a strong international focus. Entry-level positions might involve client support or junior sales roles, progressing to management of smaller client portfolios, and eventually leading to senior roles managing key multinational accounts. While specific remuneration varies widely based on experience, performance, and the employer, roles involving direct responsibility for significant client revenue generation in global markets typically command competitive salaries and bonus structures within the South African financial sector.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business Commerce, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Risk Management or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualifications and relevant market certifications advantageous.

Experience Required

  • 5–7 years' experience in Global Markets sales, client execution, treasury coverage or financial markets.
  • Experience engaging multinational corporate clients and treasury teams.
  • Knowledge of FX, rates, liquidity solutions, hedging and structured products.
  • Experience managing pipelines, revenue growth and stakeholder engagement.
