Job Description

The role of Strategy Enablement Manager for Global Markets Africa Regions is a pivotal position focused on translating high-level strategic objectives into actionable plans that drive business performance across diverse African markets. This role sits within Liberty, a prominent financial services group. The core responsibility is to ensure that the approved strategic direction for Global Markets in Africa is effectively implemented through integrated execution plans. This involves a close working relationship with the Strategy Enablement Lead and senior management to coordinate complex strategic initiatives, provide crucial commercial and performance insights, and maintain robust governance over deliverables, decisions, risks, and dependencies.

This position demands a proactive and analytical individual who can partner effectively with senior business leaders, country heads, and functional stakeholders. The goal is to embed strong execution discipline, enhance overall business performance, and provide the necessary information to support informed decision-making across the Global Markets Africa Regions franchise.

Strategic Execution and Performance Monitoring

A key facet of this role involves transforming approved strategic priorities into tangible execution plans. This includes defining clear, measurable outcomes, establishing critical milestones, and implementing effective governance routines that span across different countries, product lines, and client segments. The Strategy Enablement Manager will be responsible for meticulously monitoring progress against these plans, identifying any delivery gaps or potential roadblocks, and escalating material risks to senior leadership with well-reasoned recommendations for mitigation. This proactive approach ensures that the strategic agenda remains on track and adaptable to evolving market conditions.

The role also requires a deep dive into strategic and commercial analysis. This involves conducting thorough assessments of market trends, client behaviour, competitor activities, regulatory landscapes, and macroeconomic developments across the African continent. The insights generated will be critical for identifying new strategic opportunities and potential risks that could impact the Global Markets Africa Regions. Furthermore, the manager will support market sizing exercises, market share analyses, revenue forecasting, and regular business performance reviews. This data-driven approach will allow for an evaluation of performance across various dimensions and provide evidence-based recommendations for management to act upon.

Driving Decision Support and Governance

To facilitate informed executive decision-making, the Strategy Enablement Manager will be tasked with preparing high-quality strategic documents, executive presentations, and insightful dashboards. This involves translating complex data and analyses into clear, concise conclusions, outlining actionable options, and presenting recommended courses of action to regional and country leadership forums.

Maintaining strong governance over strategic initiatives is paramount. This includes comprehensive tracking of actions, decisions, risks, dependencies, and milestones. The aim is to foster greater accountability, ensure consistent follow-through, and enhance transparency across interconnected workstreams. Additionally, the role involves improving the quality, consistency, and utility of management information, analytics, and performance reporting frameworks. This may include coordinating remediation efforts for data capture or system issues and responsibly applying approved analytics and AI tools to generate deeper insights and support execution. The Strategy Enablement Manager will also lead or coordinate priority strategic programmes, leadership workshops, and other executive engagements, managing them from initial problem definition through to benefits tracking.

In South Africa, roles like this often require a strong understanding of the local financial services sector and regulatory environment. The successful candidate would typically have a postgraduate degree in a relevant field and substantial experience in strategy, consulting, or financial markets. While specific salaries vary greatly, comparable roles in major financial institutions in Johannesburg can offer competitive remuneration packages reflecting the strategic importance and complexity of the position. Career progression could lead to broader strategic leadership roles within the organisation, potentially encompassing wider geographies or deeper functional specialisation.
