Job Description

The role of an IT Business Analyst at FNB, specifically within the RMB Global Markets division, calls for a seasoned professional to spearhead intricate business and systems analysis for technology changes impacting market risk. This position is crucial in translating complex risk methodologies, regulatory mandates, and evolving business requirements into tangible functional specifications, data models, process designs, and control frameworks. The incumbent will be instrumental in guiding these requirements through the entire development lifecycle, from initial analysis and documentation to rigorous testing and final implementation validation, ensuring that the technology solutions accurately reflect and support market risk management objectives.

About the Role

The core purpose of this IT Business Analyst position is to provide expert analysis and guidance for technology initiatives within Market Risk for RMB Global Markets. This involves deeply understanding the nuances of market risk, regulatory obligations, and the operational needs of the business. The analyst will be the bridge between these complex requirements and the technology solutions that will address them. This entails not just documenting what needs to be done, but also critically assessing current states, identifying gaps, and proposing future-state solutions that are robust, efficient, and compliant. A significant aspect of the role will involve collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders, fostering alignment, and ensuring that all parties are working towards a common, well-defined goal.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this IT Business Analyst are broad and demanding, requiring a comprehensive approach to requirements management and solution support:

  • **Lead Requirements Elicitation and Documentation:** Take charge of the entire process of gathering, analysing, documenting, and validating business and system requirements. This includes managing any changes to these requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • **Translate Risk and Regulatory Needs:** Convert intricate market risk methodologies and regulatory compliance demands into actionable business rules, detailed functional specifications, precise data requirements, effective control mechanisms, and clear acceptance criteria.
  • **Analyse and Assess Processes:** Conduct thorough analyses of both existing and proposed future-state processes, data flows, and control environments. This involves performing detailed gap analyses, impact assessments, and identifying critical dependencies between different systems and functions.
  • **Facilitate Stakeholder Alignment:** Organise and lead workshops and meetings to bring together diverse stakeholders from Market Risk, Global Markets business units, Technology, Architecture, Data teams, Development, Testing, Operations, Finance, and various control functions. The aim is to achieve consensus and ensure a unified understanding of project goals and requirements.
  • **Maintain Traceability:** Ensure a clear and unbroken line of traceability from the initial business or regulatory need, through the documented requirements, the proposed solution, the testing phases, and ultimately to the final acceptance of the implemented solution.
  • **Support Solution Design and Delivery:** Actively contribute to the solution design process, assist in refining the product backlog, clarify delivery expectations for the development teams, prepare for testing activities, investigate defects, and ensure the solution is ready for implementation.
  • **Validate Implementation:** Critically review and validate that all implemented calculations, business rules, data transformations, data quality controls, and agreed-upon outcomes precisely match the specified requirements.
  • **Risk and Dependency Management:** Proactively escalate significant risks, critical decisions, and unresolved dependencies to the appropriate parties in a timely manner. Provide informal guidance and mentorship to junior analysts where appropriate.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, candidates will need a strong foundation in business and systems analysis, coupled with specific domain expertise in market risk and financial markets. A minimum of eight years of relevant experience is essential.

**Key Qualifications and Experience:**

  • A minimum of eight years of experience in Business Analysis or a combined Business/Systems Analysis capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience within Market Risk, traded risk, financial markets risk technology, or a closely related risk management domain.
  • Proven ability to translate complex methodologies, policies, or regulatory requirements into implementable technology, data, and control requirements.
  • Experience supporting complex change initiatives from the initial analysis phase through to testing and implementation validation.
  • A track record of successful delivery, effectively engaging with stakeholders across business, risk, data, and technology functions.
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or BTech in fields such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, or Risk Management.

**Essential Skills:**

  • Expertise in business and systems analysis, particularly within complex, data-intensive environments.
  • Proficiency in requirements elicitation, process analysis, defining business rules, creating functional specifications, data mapping, developing user stories, and defining acceptance criteria.
  • Strong skills in workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation, and constructive conflict resolution.
  • Solid data analysis capabilities, including understanding data sources, transformations, calculations, completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and reconciliation.
  • Experience supporting testing efforts, analysing defects, validating solutions, and ensuring requirements traceability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable for both technical and non-technical audiences.

**Advantageous Experience:**

  • Experience working within an Agile delivery environment.
  • Practical exposure to regulatory frameworks such as FRTB, Basel-related Market Risk changes, BCBS239, ICAAP, Pillar 3, or regulatory risk reporting.
  • Relevant certifications in Business Analysis, financial markets, risk management, data, or Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in coaching or mentoring junior team members, with a demonstrated potential for future people leadership.
