Job Description
Nivoda, a global B2B marketplace poised to revolutionise the jewellery industry, is seeking a visionary Vice President of Growth to spearhead the development of its marketing function. This pivotal role is an opportunity to construct a robust, data-driven growth engine from its foundational stages, driving predictable expansion for a unique two-sided platform connecting retailers with suppliers across more than 70 countries.
Building a Marketing Powerhouse
The core of this position lies in establishing and scaling Nivoda's marketing capabilities. You will be instrumental in translating overarching company objectives into a tangible growth model, meticulously outlining the necessary channels, programmes, and personnel to achieve them. This involves not only strategic planning but also hands-on leadership in building a global marketing team, encompassing recruitment, organisational structuring, and talent development.
Your responsibilities will span the entire marketing spectrum, with a significant focus on demand generation and pipeline contribution for both sides of Nivoda's marketplace. A critical component of this will be the establishment of a sophisticated measurement framework, ensuring accurate attribution, comprehensive funnel instrumentation, and a clear understanding of customer acquisition cost (CAC) and payback periods across diverse segments and geographies.
Strategic Vision and Execution
This role demands a departure from traditional, campaign-driven marketing. Instead, you will foster a culture of continuous experimentation, treating marketing as a dynamic portfolio of initiatives aimed at uncovering and optimising growth levers. You will own the critical areas of product marketing and positioning, developing a compelling narrative for Nivoda as the indispensable operating system for the jewellery sector.
Driving customer lifecycle marketing and retention will be paramount, ensuring sustained engagement and value for users. Close collaboration with Sales and Revenue leadership will be essential to align marketing efforts with broader commercial goals. Furthermore, you will play a key role in adapting and localising go-to-market strategies for Nivoda's most significant international markets. Managing the marketing budget effectively and providing clear, defensible justifications for all expenditure will be a core accountability, as will representing the marketing function confidently at leadership and board-level discussions.
The Ideal Candidate
Nivoda is looking for a seasoned marketing leader with substantial experience in a B2B small to medium-sized business (SMB) environment. A proven track record of building marketing teams and functions from the ground up is essential, demonstrating your ability to establish structures and processes where they don't yet exist.
A deep, hands-on understanding of data analytics and growth methodologies is crucial, underpinning your strategic decision-making. You must possess a demonstrable history of owning and delivering on pipeline or revenue targets. The role requires full-stack breadth in marketing, ideally encompassing experience in performance marketing, content strategy, product marketing, lifecycle management, and brand building.
Genuine senior leadership experience, coupled with exceptional judgment and the confidence to make difficult decisions, including knowing when to decline opportunities, is highly valued. The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating ambiguity and operating within a relatively flat organisational hierarchy. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are a prerequisite for this global role.
In South Africa, a position like VP of Growth in a tech-focused, global marketplace could attract a competitive remuneration package, often including performance-based bonuses and equity, reflecting the strategic importance and impact of the role. Typical employers for such high-calibre marketing leadership roles are often scale-up technology companies, particularly those with a SaaS or marketplace model, and increasingly, established businesses undergoing digital transformation. Career progression typically involves advancement to C-suite roles, such as Chief Marketing Officer or Chief Growth Officer, with increasing responsibility for global strategy and P&L.
