Job Description

CoverGo, a globally recognised leader in the insurtech space, is expanding its team by seeking a seasoned Senior Software QA Engineer to join their fully remote international workforce. The company's mission is to revolutionise the insurance sector by enabling all insurance providers to achieve 100% digital accessibility for their services. Having secured significant funding and with a proven track record of exponential revenue growth, CoverGo is partnered with major enterprise clients across the globe, including well-known names like AXA and Bupa. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, multicultural environment where innovation and continuous learning are highly valued.

About the Role

As a Senior Software QA Engineer at CoverGo, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of their cutting-edge no-code insurance platform. This position involves a blend of manual and API testing, requiring a meticulous approach to identifying, documenting, and resolving defects. You'll be expected to work autonomously, manage your tasks effectively, and contribute proactively to the team's problem-solving efforts. The role demands a deep understanding of QA principles and methodologies within an agile framework, with a strong emphasis on delivering high-quality software that meets enterprise-level standards.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of quality assurance activities, designed to maintain the integrity and performance of CoverGo's platform. This includes:

  • Conducting thorough manual testing of new features and functionalities.
  • Identifying and resolving quality process issues with minimal supervision.
  • Developing and executing test scenarios to validate software behaviour.
  • Precisely documenting and reporting bugs, providing developers with the necessary details for swift resolution.
  • Performing comprehensive API testing using industry-standard tools like Postman or Swagger, verifying request and response integrity.
  • Communicating testing progress and outcomes effectively to cross-functional teams.
  • Executing assigned tasks diligently and contributing to the overall problem-solving process.
  • Proactively supporting team members and fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Continuously exploring and applying innovative testing approaches and best practices to enhance your skills and contribute to the team's success.

What They're Looking For

To excel in this role, candidates should possess a strong foundation in software quality assurance and a passion for continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of four years of experience in manual testing, particularly within agile development environments.
  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar, demonstrating an ability to validate endpoints, status codes, and response payloads.
  • A deep theoretical understanding of Quality Assurance principles and practices.
  • A solid grasp of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile QA methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team and with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
  • A proactive approach to learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies.
  • An eagerness to share new ideas and contribute to a culture of innovation.

In South Africa, senior QA roles often involve a competitive salary range, typically R450,000 to R700,000 per annum, depending on experience and the specific company's remuneration structure. Tech companies, especially those in the fintech and insurtech sectors, are common employers. Career progression in QA often leads to roles such as QA Lead, Test Automation Engineer, or even into more general project management or business analysis positions, particularly with companies like CoverGo that are expanding rapidly and operate on a global scale.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in using manual testing tools and procedures in an agile environment.
  • Hands-on experience in manual API testing (e.g., using Postman, Swagger, or similar tools), including validating endpoints, status codes, and response payloads.
  • Deep understanding of QA theory.
  • Good level of understanding of the software development life cycle and lean/agile QA methodologies.
  • Enjoy working in a group and collaborating with cross-functional teams to get things done.
  • Good communication in English is a must.
  • Continuous learning of innovative approaches to testing and best-practices around it.
  • Share new ideas and adapt to changes.
