Job Description

This opportunity at FNB in Cape Town centres on contributing to the bank's lending activities, specifically within commercial property finance and residential developments. You'll play a vital role in the entire lifecycle of less complex deals, from initial idea generation through to successful closure, all while working under the guidance of experienced colleagues. It's a chance to immerse yourself in the financial intricacies of property transactions and build a strong foundation in deal-making within the South African market.

About the Role

As a Lend Deal Maker, your primary responsibility will be to manage the origination, structuring, and finalisation of deals that fall within your allocated sector or product scope. This involves more than just processing applications; it requires a deep dive into financial and credit information to assess potential risks and inform lending decisions. You'll be actively involved in preparing comprehensive credit submissions, ensuring all documentation is accurate and ready for review by credit committees.

A significant part of the role involves cultivating and maintaining strong client relationships. This means not only understanding their current financial needs but also proactively identifying opportunities to offer suitable financing solutions. You will be expected to stay abreast of economic conditions, understand the inherent risks associated with various businesses, and interpret financial statements to make sound recommendations. Success in this position is directly linked to achieving individual sales targets for your designated area, contributing to both customer satisfaction and FNB's overall growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

The day-to-day activities of a Lend Deal Maker are varied but focused on successful deal execution and client engagement. You can expect to:

  • **Analyse Financials and Risk:** Scrutinise financial data and credit information to evaluate the risk profile of potential borrowers and support informed lending decisions.
  • **Structure Transactions:** Work alongside senior deal makers to help design and structure commercial property finance deals, ensuring they meet both client needs and FNB's lending criteria.
  • **Prepare Credit Submissions:** Compile high-quality credit applications and all necessary supporting documentation, presenting a clear and compelling case for funding approval.
  • **Deliver Client Solutions:** Provide excellent client service by offering relevant and innovative financing solutions that address specific business requirements.
  • **Monitor Market Conditions:** Maintain a keen awareness of economic trends, industry-specific business risks, and the financial health of clients through diligent statement analysis.
  • **Ensure Quality and Timeliness:** Uphold high standards for all credit submissions and related administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and prompt delivery.
  • **Manage Deal Flow:** Oversee the entire deal process from origination to conclusion, presenting funding applications and structuring deals that align with organisational goals.
  • **Grow the Portfolio:** Actively manage relationships with existing clients and seek opportunities to expand the portfolio by understanding their evolving business needs and offering appropriate financial products.
  • **Collaborate Internally:** Work effectively with various internal departments, including sales coverage teams and credit specialists, to ensure the seamless execution of lending products and deals.

FNB is seeking individuals with a solid academic background and practical experience in the property finance sector. A strong analytical mindset and a commitment to client service are paramount.

**Minimum Requirements:**

  • A BCom degree or an equivalent qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience specifically within Commercial Property Finance or the Residential Developments sector.
